Sean is on a distinguished road
Hello from Massachusetts!

Hi, my name is Sean and I am a VERY new golfer. I'm not sure how much I'll be posting here but I figure I should introduce myself either way.

Just kinda started getting in to playing golf. I bought a Acuity set (Yes, I know they are not the best...lol) to get me going and already have a Ping 3 wood and a set of Golfsmith irons on there way from some generous friends.

I am a truck driver in the western MA area and live in the city of Holyoke. My biggest passion is cigars and particularly Havana Cigars, but unfortunately those are not very challenging, nor do they provide any excercise, lmao. If anyone has a cigar question, feel free to ask me. I wouldn't consider myself an expert, but I do know more than most....

I'm 29 have a killer GF, 3 cats and a crappy apt.!

So, I hoep you guys don't mind the occasional newbie question, cause i think I may have a few coming along....

So, that's me. Any questions, feel free.

- Sean

How's it going Sean. I'm from right down the road in RI. I also drive a truck but just a 26' straight job for a moving company. Good luck. I took this sport up about 2 1/2 yrs. ago myself. It can get aggrevating but it is a difficult pursuit that keeps me out of trouble.

Welcome Sean.. I just started on this forum today.. but Ive been golfing for quite a few years..

call me naive... but is there a lot to know about cigars? I always thought they were just something to smoke and smell..

Good luck with the golf game. Its very fun, frustrating quite often, but still VERY fun. Enjoy it.

and dont be shy to post..

Well, if your intent is to just smoke and smell the cigar, you're right, there really isn't a whole lot to it.

Now, if you intend to fully ENJOY the cigar, then yes, there is a lot that you can know to enhance the experience.

In a good cigar (not gas station cigars like Phillies White Owls, Dutch Master, etc) that is hand made you will get a cool smoke with tastes of everything crom honey to toffee, Caramel to cocoa and sweet tobacco to mushrooms just to name a few.

Then if you REALLY get in to cigars there is a lot of minutia that get's interesting, like how to roll a cigar, what leaves are used, the blends, etc.

For anyone who smokes mass market cigars (gas station cigars) or anyone interested.... - Instead of just smoking and smelling a cigar, try a good brand (CAO, Torano, Fuente to name threee big ones) from a real tobacco shop, sit back, smoke it slowly and try to detect flavors in your mouth. I am positive you'd be surprised.

Weirdly...I cannot stand to smoke anything and cigarette smoke is positively offensive to me. I can get slightly nauseated from it...and I am an ex-smoker myself. I smoked a pack of Cool Filter Kings every day in college before I quit upon graduation. Those are pretty brutal sticks but over the years since, my body has taken a strong distaste for tobacco.

On the other hand, the guys I play with often smoke the Fuente cigars like you describe and I love the smell of them. I actually enjoy being in the cart while they are puffing away. I tried to smoke one myself a few years ago and couldn't stand it though.

Odd yet somehow strange.

Bravo, Im just as you.. sept without the smoking period in college. I never have, but have always hated it. On the other side though, I love the smell of some cigars. My dad will ocasionally have a cigar, and I love the smell.

Sean, thanks for the reply. I didnt really think about it, but you are right. I guess there could be a whole other side with lots of tastes, smells, experiences. I didnt know; I dont smoke, so Ive never paid much attention to it.

Oh well. Anyway, see you around the forum. Enjoy the game.

I guess it's sort of like if someone asks you why you would talk golf balls. On the surface it seems pretty silly, I mean it's a golf ball. White, dimpled, gos like a bastard if you hit it with soemthing, right?

But if you're in to golf you know that their are one, two, three and four piece balls, some are soft, some hard, different feels, etc.

To the outsider it's pretty cleare cut, but if you know, then it's fascineting subject
