Poison Ivy Golf is on a distinguished road
Hello from the home of Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail

Hello all,

My name is Mark I'm a recent returner to golf. I live in North Alabama and have been playing again for about 3 months. I played from age 10 thru 15 and a few years before I got husband added to the list of titles. I won a set of clubs in a sales contest and off I went to the obsession that is golf. I've played 94 holes since Sunday and can't get enough. I did not play today and I'm jonesing like a crack addict. I suck at golf, I was going to say that earlier. Anyway, I've been lurking around here and thought I would sign up. Anyone here from North Alabama? Anyone that wants to play give me a shout. I shoot between 82 and 92 on a 71/118 muni that's a decent place to play.

Welcome aboard!! I wouldn't go as far as saying you suck at golf, 82-92 sounds pretty decent. You have a wide variety on here from pretty decent golfers to hacks like me. I shot in the 80's alot more (and occasionally in the 70's) when I played a bit more than I do now, but now it is just shoot in the 80's on occasion or when I leave my home course, although I am starting to play a bit more again the last few months and it is getting better. Just in time for winter. I think it is something like only 10% ever break 90, so you are in pretty good company.

Not sure where about, or if it is in the North, but I have heard that Bravo lives in 'Bama and plays some of the RTJ trails on occasion.

Welcome!

Hi Mark:

I am in Birmingham and play the RTJ courses at various locations several times a year. I played the Fighting Joe up in your neighborhood about three months ago. What a buttkicker...my wife and I took a weekend and stayed at the Marriott resort there and had a ton of fun...

If you are ever down the road here, look me up and we will play...

BTW - we also have another poster on our board from Montgomery too....BamaDuffer....

Glad you have your here...you're with a great group of people from all over the world.

Thanks for the welcome.

Fighting Joe will kick your ..... Iplayed it from the tips in a 20-25 mph wind. When I got to 18? (par 3 next to the river) I turned around a hit the ball into the river and waved the white towel. I think I lost 9 balls that round!!!!

I love the RTJ, played two different courses. One near Dothan and another somewhere else(Can't remember which). Beautiful courses, wouldn't mind getting out there again.

I got mine kicked too. I got in 8 bunkers in the first 10 holes. There's just so much sand on all of these courses its incredible..

With a Tour Card though, that complex there in your area is a phenomenal deal. I think I paid $32 for my round including cart...you can't beat that quality of golf for that pittance of a payment...

Have you ever played Turtle Point? Also designed by Robert Trent Jones - personally - back in the late 60's. That's a classic track and ranked in the top 10 in Alabama...that says a lot right there.
