Talking Went To My First Meeting Today...

As we all know when one has an addiction the first step towards recovery is to admit you have a problem.
Well I finally decided to face my addiction.
Earlier this morning I found myself sitting in a room full of others who share my problem.
At the beginning of the meeting everyone took their turn introducing themselves and admitting to their addiction.
I sat there shaking,
my hands were sweating,
my head was bowed as it became my turn...
In a quiverring voice I mumbled...
Hi, I'm Bob and
I'm er, um, well,
Ok, I'm a GOLFER!!!!!!
Oh, how much I hated to make this admission!!!!!
I used to ride Harleys,
now I drive a golf cart!
I used to fly colors, wear blue jeans, boots, and a chain drive wallet!
Now I wear Polo shirts, shorts, and Nike saddle golf shoes.
My can of beer has been replaced with a #7 iron.
I had to state publicly that I infect others with my addiction...
Susan now has a set of clubs and is taking lessons.
Worse yet, little Casey Anne has her own play set of clubs.
Hell I even sent a certain friend of mine from Tennesee a complete set of clubs and got him hooked too.!!!!
Now he hates me!!!
OH THE SHAME OF IT ALL!!!!
Anyway after about an hour of listening to horror stories about slicing, divots, and cheating on score cards we closed with a prayer...
"Our Mentor,
Who Art On the Fairway,
Jack Nicklaus Be Thy Name.
I Pray To Me Will Come,
A Hole In One,
Some Day On Hole #7!
Forgive Us Our Divots
As We Forgive Those
Who Yell "FORE" Against Us,
Give Us A Day Of Warm Sun And Low Score,
And Lead Us Not Into The Hazards,
But Deliver Us From All Slices
Amen."
After which we all retired to the back of the room where we smoked big fat cigars,
ate hot dogs,
drank beer, (my favorite part!!!)
And watched old re-runs of
Shells Wonderful World of Golf!!!!
I'm Doomed!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome. I've been at this game for 3 yrs. now and I only get more into it. You are a truck driver? I drive for a Moving Company but just a 26' Freightliner. Glad to have you aboard. Hit 'em long and straight.

The first step is to admit you have a problem, the second is to infect everyone around you.

Thank you all for the nice welcome.
Ezra, yes I'm a truckdriver.
I own a 2000 Peterbilt 379exhd w/ 63" standup sleeper.
I pull for Barnes&Noble out of Monroe, NJ.
Your job sounds too much like work,
I think I'll stick with my "drop&hook" gig!!!

Last fall, (2005) My dispatcher asked me if I wanted to join him and some others from B&N for a round of golf.
Now I've never played before and didn't own any golf equipment.
He had a extra set of clubs for me to use.
I have no idea what my score was, although I'm sure it was VERY high, but I had a ball!!!
And the rest is history...

I had a starter set of Ram clubs and about 3 months ago I was able to buy a brand new-never hit set of Cobra 3400 i/h irons and M-speed driver on ebay for $400.00.
I also bought an Oddessy 2-ball srt putter.
I still have my Ram #3 & #5 woods and #3 iron-wood in my bag but hope to replace them with Cobras at the Golf Expo up here in Febuary.

I've been taking lessons with a PGA pro and he says I have a very natural swing.
But I have a looooooong way to go.
Played both days last weekend.
Shot a 114 and 123.
I need help in ALL areas of my game!!!!!

But, I'm still having a ball!!!
Leaving today for Lady Lake Florida, The Villages, for a week of golf with the in-laws!!!

Everyone have a wonderful Christmas and New Years!!!!!
