Bowling season begins

well some of you may remeber last yr i quit bowling because of an arthritic plant knee.that was to boring so i`m back to bowling 1 night a week.

last night was the first night and i was pretty pleased with the results since i havent touched a ball since the end of the 05-06 season.i ended up with a 555 for 185 avg. only 6 pins off my old avg.

i unfortunately dont live in the south where i can golf yr round so i have to do something to keep me busy in the winter.

Come on now everyone knows that cast balls are just plain junk. I bet he forges his own ball out of reactive urethane. The feel of a forged reactive bowling ball is simply better than sex.

I learned last year that a bowling ball has an asymmetrical weight inside.

I'm waiting for Phil to start playing left- and right-weighted balls, so he can choose whether to slice or hook the ball into the lettuce, from which he will make yet another miraculous up and down.

I bowl worse then I play golf. Never learned (bothered to learn) to throw a hook. Just FIRE that sucker down about 100 mph where it barely touches the wood and POW! Pins flying into other lanes. Destroyed pin machines. And a ridiculously low score.

I bowl about the same way I golf. Pretty crappy handicap, but occasional good scores that are deceiving. All in the blowup holes/frames. I did manage to bowl 100 over my handicap, but the ABC never sent me my watch. Had a 236 with a 134 handicap the year I went from bowling straight to with a hook.

Haven't picked up a ball in about 10 years outside of moving it around the garage or attic, and left having won our league 2 years running. That ball would likely roll like it has an asymmetrical weight after the heat from the Garage or Attic. Like golf, we did it mainly for the fun and doing things with friends, yet still competitive. The people running our league got a little too serious and took all the fun out of it for us. We were about 5 games up in first when the league secretary started screwing around with the schedules in mid season. Then preceded to instigate an argument in the begin of one of the nights, and when we said that was it for us, she preceded to say we shouldn't quit just because we were losing (we were 5 up with about 1/4 of the year left). When she made that comment we walked away and 4-5 of the 10 teams simply followed us into the bar without us saying a word to them. I guess what was going on must have been a little more obvious than we thought up to that point. Our 5-6 teams continued to go down to the bar on league night for the rest of the year. It actually ended up being almost as fun as the league. Bowled maybe two games since that day.

Funny how almost all of our friends from our old area and up here came from people we met through either bowling or golf.

Bowling has become somewhat of a joke. With walled up house conditions and such, a "scratch" bowler which i consider over 200 on a sport pattern, should be able to average 240+ in a THS league. I too am a much better bowler then golfer, But havent not bowled in a THS league in a long time dont think I could take it up seriously where the jackpots and such are won every game with 279s and 300's. Before I come to FL, I bowled 3 nights a week, One a sport pattern league, the other a PBA challenge league and one a typical thursday night classic league. All three leagues had the same base of people, most of us either highschool/college bowlers that used fake names and such to keep our amature status. Typically the scores for the week went Monday: AVE 201, Wednesday: Ave 198, Thursday: Ave 239. As you can see, its hard to really take bowling seriously when the average person can watch the PBA on sundays and see them shoot 210's and such and say I CAN DO THAT!. They begin to think they are hot stuff, never having the faintest clue what it takes to shoot those scores on a PBA pattern with camera lights affecting the oil. Its not even worth explaining competive bowling to a person who hasnt been around it. I may take up bowling down here as opposed to getting a job, depends how the competition is in Orlando.

i know what you mean about the patterns during league being easy.one of the top bowlers in our house has tried out for the pros a few times.one time he was in the top 10 after 2 days of qualifing.then they hit then with a flooded pattern and he dropped out of a chance to make the match play.he said alot of pros were even struggling to get the ball to hook.the main reason i bowl is its either that or sit in the house and watch the tube all winter.wich i did last winter and went about nuts.

i have no delusions of having a shot at the pros.i would like to try sports pattern bowling but they dont have it in our house and im not really into driveing 50 miles in the winter weather to try it.i could see myself avg. about 150-160 on a sport pattern.

Sport bowling is probably just as mentally demanding as golf, TBH. EVERY frame you have to make an adjustment, make the wrong one, and your game is done. We had some regional pros in a THS league with us, over 12 weeks the one guy averaged 268. And he couldnt come close to cutting it as a national pro, That should put into perspective how good those guys really are. I dont think it was the fact your friends pattern was flooded, as it was probably flat too, and he didnt have any bounce room, If he was really a smart bowler he would know to just throw a reactive particle up 15 and crank it and hope he gets a little jump to the inside from the backend.

i read somewhere once that some of the pros that do bowl in regular leagues usualy avg. 250-260 for a season.

i rememeber seeing that flat pattern on tv last season and seeing most everybody playing it pretty straight.
