With Bynum they are the best team in the league. The lack of rebounding in this series is laughable. Oh well, there is always next year.

I'm the biggest Celtics fan on this board. The C's wrap it up tonight with ease. The last time they wojn the title, I was in kindergarten so I didn't fully appreciate what I was seeing then watching Larry Bird (the greatest player, this side of Wilt), Mchale, Dennis Johnson, et al.

I still get sick of everybody acting like Michael Jordan walks on water. The guy benefitted from marketing more so than any player ever (Nike tried to make the case he was the greatest player ever. IMO, he is no better than the third best player ever, maybe even fourth depending on whether or not you prefer Magic over him). The fact that he was named ESPN's athlete of the century is a joke (it should have been Muhammed Ali).. Michael also benefitted from the officials more than any other player (garbage foul calls on opponents, lack of offensive foul calls, taking five steps before shooting, etc). People ripped Magic for two comeback attempts (he only completed one. he aborted the comeback in 1992) but praised Michael for both of his (1995 and 2001). People ripped Magic for his marital infidelity and for having a child out of wedlock. Michael had an affair as well (and paid the woman to keep quiet) and also had a child out of wedlock. Finally the 1995-96 Bulls team wouldn't have lasted 6 games against the 1985-86 Celtics.

Sorry, but saying that MJ wasn't the greatest BB player ever is laughable.

You obviously were to young to see MJ in his prime. I think all you saw were his Wizard days.

Pretty confident to say the Celts will take it tonight. 3 and change left in the 2nd quarter as I type this. Lakers are getting killed on the boards and turning it over like crazy. Celtics haven't even been shooting that well. Look for a game 2 3rd quarter except no drama this time. I'm predicting an 87-74 win.

As to MJ. Greatest player of his era by a long shot. As to whether he was more dominant than Wilt, not sure about that. My grandfather played 1yr. of professional basketball. Played against George Mikan, that long ago, lol. He said he'd seen Wilt practicing. From a standing box out position he would grab dollars off the top of the backboard.

My grandfather was Alton Nichols, same as my dad. He played for URI in the NIT, which back then was the NCAA championship. They lost to Kentucky... Ralph Beard and Adolph Rupp ring any bells?

Kentucky vs. Rhode Island (March 20, 1946)

He played against guys like Bob Cousy. His teammate, Ernie Caverly still holds the record for the longest shot ever. Threw up a one handed shot the entire the length of the court and swished it.

That's the key. The really big guys (Wilt, Bill Russell, Lew Alcindor) were dominant because of their size. They were like you playing against a bunch of midgets. MJ could take over a game, and he was only 6' 6". He holds the NBA scoring average record, and was one of the best defensive players to ever walk onto a court. Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Wilt Chamberlain - all amazing players deserving of top five status. But MJ is the best.

As a Lakers fan I hate to see them lose, but as a KG fan I'm glad he won't be know as the guy who couldn't win the big one. Congrats to the Celtics but lookout next year if Bynum can return to form.

No, I saw MJ in his prime. I honestly do not feel he is the best ever. I didn't come here to start any arguments, I am only stating my opinion. At 7'2", Wilt was taller than just about everybody else at that time (until Alcindor) but Wilt also led fastbreaks, was a decent outside shooter, a great passer for a big man (led the NBA in assists one year-1968 I believe. Only Walton, Sabonis, and David Robinson were better than Wilt as passers from teh center position). He did struggle at the free-throw line ( career .580 I think--I'm pulling everything from the top of my head here) but in the final two minutes he was pretty much money from the line. The ONLY thing Wilt lacked was a constant killer instinct. Even without that, he was unbelievably great.

As great as Bird was, he sacrificed big time on personal stats for the betterment of the team and even with that, he was amazing. It's just too bad his body fell apart.
