Monday Night Football

Anyone else wonder how in the heck the NFL ever came about with the decision to give AZ vs. SF as a Monday Night Game???

They had a combined total of 13 wins last year, 12 the year before that, and are off to a hot start with 7 at the midway point this year.

Someone who sets up the schedule must be a Cards or Niners fan. Playing on Monday night used to mean something.

After looking at some of the other Monday Night Matchups, AZ may actually be deserving of their spot on a stretch in comparison to a few of the other games.

Although SF would likely finish worse in the Big 12 South than the NFC West.

If you hadn't noticed, Sun. night is the new Mon. night. The best games are Sun. night now and ESPN gets the garbage that's left over Mon. night.

But yeah, I was looking forward to seeing some stars. That's what Monday night is all about.

I think Sunday Nt. Football has taken the premier spot.

Agreed, as soon as they took Monday Night Football off the networks, specifically ABC, it was done. I am a huge niners fan and was surprised to be seeing them on MNF. As a football fan in general I hate to admit, I sometimes forget MNF is even on now that it is not on ABC-I just don't turn on ESPN on weeknights. I watch it in the AM and briefly in the early evening....

Sunday night with Al and John Madden is the new Monday night.

As far as I'm concerned, ESPN has ruined MNF. Tony Kornholer (I mean, Tony Kornheiser) is probably the worst person from their corral of personalities that they could have put in the booth. Tirico isn't bad, but I wonder how he puts up with Jaworski (I almost miss Joe Theisman) and Kornholer.

I agree... Corn-holer is the worst thing to happen to MNF since Dennis Miller.

As to the OP... Being a long-time 49er fan living in Oklahoma, since they such this is the first chance I've had to see them play this year. So I'm actually very happy about having the Niners on tv tonight! And they're actually making a game out of it and not just getting their ass kicked thus far!

It was a very lively game, considering I expected a slew of high-school mistakes.

I would NOT try to run it up the middle with a sizeable goal-line play with 4 seconds left, personally. Run to the outside or a short pass, maybe...

At least, I wouldn't try it with the 49ers lineup. 1 yard, maybe. Not 3.

As to the OP... Being a long-time 49er fan living in Oklahoma, since they such this is the first chance I've had to see them play this year. So I'm actually very happy about having the Niners on tv tonight! And they're actually making a game out of it and not just getting their ass kicked thus far!

This is one of the reasons I noticed the game. I have been a long time Redskins fan, and for the 10-15 year time frame where they were pretty much abysmal most of the time, I usually only got to see them when they played the Eagles. Always remember that they would only get a Monday Night game when they had at least a winning record. The only other time was when they played the Cowboys on occasion. They would however manage to get some of the Sunday night games. Now I have moved to an area that gets PHL and NY stations, so I am guaranteed all of those as well as many of the AFC games when they play an eastern team. There are 2 FOX stations and 3 CBS stations on standard cable. Actually I have been blessed this year in that I believe the Det game is the only that has not been aired.

I admit that I really didn't consider the impact the Sunday night game and announcers likely had on their decision because I have never really watched Sunday night unless it was the 'Skins. May have to go to that, as eyeing the rest of the year, it does seem to be the better matchups. Starting this weekend with Dal-Was.

Kornholer (I refuse to call him anything but that) is a dingbat. Jaworski has one one the greatest football analyst minds ever - but he's a dingbat. ESPN should be ashamed.

At least Miller was knowledgable about the game and did his home work.....Kornheiser talks as though its the first time he has seen the game played. Might as well pull a local fan out of a bar and give them the mic and the worst case scenario is that you find someone as bad as Kornheiser.
