Yes, not for a steroid however. It was a doctor prescribed medication for a minor health problem. Neither the doctor or Manny had any idea it was on the banned substance list. I also read the doctor involved has no idea why it would be banned as it has zero performance enhancing traits. Feel free to continue making a villain out of Manny without the facts though.

So his board certified doctor says as well. Plus Manny has no characteristics of a steroid user physique, looks exactly the same as he has for the last 10 seasons and has passed 15 drug tests in the last 5 seasons prior to this one.

Maybe, but if it was something that innocent it seems like he would have appealed the decision and he didn't. It would suck if it was something stupid like a beta blocker though.

This year just add further support as to why I stopped watching MLB since the '94 Strike. Which used to be my favorite sport to watch.

NOT questioning Lyle, but if this is true then this really sucks. Yes, he knows the rules and should've followed them. But answer this: IF this is his reason, would you have wanted to tell MLB (or whoever has to be told)?

this is a crock of shit - with my background, i dont believe he didnt know. there's no mistaking why he would take hCG and here is my why.

anytime you need to take a needle, load it from a vile, then inject this something into your body (aside from injectable b vitamin which is BRIGHT red) with the SOLE purpose to increase your testosterone production... what would one think this would be ok?

i for one am not so gullible .

if we want to talk about the rules for athletes (not hrt)- there are 3 efficient ways one can increase testosterone in their body aside from eating right and working out:

1 - (illegal) taking a exogenous synthetic testosterone or anabolic steroids (yes they are different)
2 - taking a analog of testosterone that is not actually testosterone outside the body but the body turns into testosterone. (1-AD/androsteindione etc)
3- aromatase inhibitors whether prescription (clomid nolvadex arimidex) or OTC (testolyze/novedex xt/6-oxo/restore)- in simple terms work by decreasing your own ESTROGEN thereby increasing your testosterone and the ratio of free testosterone.

(note: If one took hCG it would be to start the boys back up part of a PCT (post cycle therapy) usually after #1 or #2 above)

I have no problem banning testosterone or anabolics usage from sport. i for one competed naturally in bodybuilding a sport full of anabolic abuse and have seen first hand the phenomenal horrors it can do - just not worth it.

but i have no problem of lowering ones estrogen levels which do increase natural testosterone levels as a side effect- IF YOUR BLOODWORK SUPPORTS THIS! you can do this WITHOUT actually taking straight testosterone with OTC products that work to inhibit the binding aspect of the aromatase enzyme (note i said binding aspect, not inhibit the production of). i think this should be allowed.

not to get into a bio-chemical discussion on a golf forum, but the way i see it is, if your producing say 500 units of testosterone with your gonads naturally, but your estrogen level is high due to stress, exercise, etc, your not getting the full value of the 500 units of test. your estrogen levels compete for the same receptor sites lowering your effective testosterone value. lower your estrogen and you effectively take the brakes off your natural testosterone effectiveness (make sense?)

after all elevated levels of estrogen in a man are by far one of the most damaging things to happen to a male - they lead to heart disease, high cholesterol, gynomastica, erectile disfunction, hair loss, obesity, on and on. plus IT is what makes a woman bitchy so why would we want estrogen elevated!!!?!?!?!?!?

getting back to manny, if he has a medical condition that made gonads stopped producing testosterone, you have to wonder what got him to that level. if its high estrogen, then the proper medical route is a anti-estrogen route. if its low test due to age, then HRT him. but the only use for hCG is to kick start the boys after a steroid cycle which shriveled the boys into non use.
