Nah, I get it dude. Favre and the Packers were synonymous for the longest time. It's honestly a really crappy situation in general. I can't really blame Favre for wanting to play if he can, even if he could've handled it better. Nor can you blame the Vikings for taking him. Nor can you blame the Packers for wanting to give Rodgers his day. Just sucks, in general, specifically for the Pack.

Look at it this way though. It's a good thing for everyone. Favre still gets to play, the Vikings finally have someone in the QB position, and the Packers get to garner new talent and work on setting up a franchise that may take a couple rings in the next decade, instead of counting their time.
This is pretty much how I feel about the whole thing. Being from the south, Mississippi more specifically, and a bigger college football fan than pro, I tend to pull more for players. Favre played for my 2nd favorite college team, USM. So when he went to the Packers I followed them. Just like I'm a Colts fan because of Peyton. My old stand by pro team is the Saints so its been easier being a college ball fan through the years,

It does look weird seeing Favre in a Vikes jersey I'll admit, but I'm glad to see him doing well. Would I have preferred to see him retire a Packer, yes. But then again, I'd have rather seen Montana retire a 49'er also. Sadly with free agency and the salary cap, the days of seeing your favorite player play for one team their whole career are over.

I dunno, I wouldn't say it as a blanket statement. I mean, we're still seeing people retiring in jersey's they made their name in. Perfect example actually is Bettis, likely Peyton, a few others.

Re: Favre signs with Vikings

I'm ok with Brent (#4) playing with the Vikings or whoever. It was the decision process that bugged me. I believe in what Trevino said. "Once over a putt--miss it quick."

Exactly.
You can play with whoever you want, but a little bit of "class" in the process is always welcomed.

Re: Favre signs with Vikings

Ok, playing Devil's advocate here. Do we know exactly what was said in the meetings between Brett and the Packer higher ups? Maybe Brett did handle it all wrong, and I'm willing to say that most likely he did. Example being the Sears commercials,

But maybe, just maybe the Pack thought, ok, he is getting on up there in years, its time to move on. There are always 2 sides to each story. And yes, like I said earlier, I am a Favre fan, so I could very well be way off base here!

Either way, I HATE free-agency and the salary cap. Both are leading to the ruination of the NFL in my mind.

Re: Favre signs with Vikings

Looks like the end of the salary cap in the near future. Anyway, I thought Thompson treated Favre like crap after what he did for that franchise, and on the other hand, Favre retired and they planned accordingly, and Rogers has handled it as good as any man possibly can. He's talented and deserved his chance. I'll always like Brett Favre though, even though he's with my most hated rival of the Packers.
