My hockey line ridiculously owns

My offensive line for my hockey team a few seasons ago was the best i ever had. We had over half the points on the team i think. It was awesome, it was a lot of fun.

This year my line is going to be better, i think. Me and two of my best friends make up the "Red Line". We work very well together and we score a lot. In the last 3 games we got like 11 goals. The only problem is we get short shifted a lot, and we never get to play powerplays, or in situations where we need goals.

It was a little bit of poor coaching. Our coach almost always puts his sons line out for power plays and clutch situations, even tho i would be better give everyone a chance (especially since that line is not very successful. He also lets his sons line stay out for like 3 min at a time and then they to tired to do anything. Almost everyone i talk to agrees with me, and most of the players say they don't think he's a very good coach.

As a youth hockey coach there are two schools of thought here; one is to put the best players together and hope that the other lines do not get scored on… too much. The other is to even out the lines and have even talent on the ice during the whole game.

For a number of years I coached using the ‘even out’ the lines mentality. One year I was fortunate to coach with Victor Fedorov (Sergei and Fedor’s dad) and he explained that if you even out the talent then the better players are not able to pass the puck (because there linemates are unable to catch a pass) or receive a pass. So, you are slowing down the better players from learning/improving. By putting players on lines with players of there talent level you help all of the players learn and improve at there own pace versus being restricted by other teammates. For younger kids he was adamant about all kidlets getting pretty much equal ice time (that does change as you get older) but you do have lines of varying talent.

There are still pro’s and con’s of doing it either way but if you are on a travel or AAA team that the goal is player development then putting the stronger players together makes more sense. If you are on a house team or a recreational travel team and having fun is the goal then evening out the lines would seem to make more sense…

Good luck with your season and there is nothing wrong with being on a line that scores goals… just remember to backcheck and play some defense also.

As a Capitals fan that has lived in PA for a number of years, I just have to throw in my 0.02 cents worth for the sake of GoFlyers.

Philadelphia has not been the same since they split up the "Legion of Doom", with Lindros, Leclair and Renburg. Or since they traded them all away. Sorry!!!

That was a great line that scored most of the points and won alot of games. As a Caps fan I can't say I was Sad to see them go.

It is the first thing I think of when I see a dominating line.

Alot of those go back before I started watching hockey. My father was in the military and I lived in Washington, KS and AZ for the most part during those times. The Caps, and Scouts were not to good until alot later . I didn't watch much until Gretzky came around. So to throw in a couple more from my time.

Messier's line on the Oilers was pretty decent as well, can't remember the other 2, but you could probably throw any 3 of those 6 together and have a great line. Can't even imagine what Gretzky, Messier, and Kurri would've done.

Bahahaha, whenever I see Krutov's name, I laugh.

Now there's a guy that used hockey as his ticket into Canada and then just let his quite exceptional talent slip away. He came, played for that one season, and then during the summer off, gained like 40 lbs.

Said something along the lines of how much he loved eating hot dogs and going to the beach.

Haha, my brother got Krutov put on the back of his Canucks jersey that he used to wear when we were playing road hockey back then. We've never stopped calling him Doug Krutov. Too funny.
