Favre is still the BEST

Say what you will but if I had a team of top players (which the Packers aren't) I'd want Favre running the offense. Where were all the Mannings and other new hot quarterbacks today. Favre could have thrown another TD at the end but the Packers are good sports.

playing teams other than the 49ers. really, the td pass he threw to that one rookie (1st or 2nd TD - can't recall right now) could have been completed by any high school QB. the coverage broke down so bad, it was as if the secondary was already down in santa clara!

don't get me wrong, i'm a big fan of Favre. he's a helluva competitor and will be considered one of the game's all-time great QBs but all he did today was pick apart a very sub-par pass defense.

Brady is starting to look pretty ordinary since the "cast" around him has declined. Switch him with Favre and see which team benefits the most!

Farve is most definitely one of the top 5 to ever play the game at that position.

Montana isn't even the best in SF history, Young is.

Brady is solid but not the QB he is hyped to be, just because a guys team wins the Super Bowl doesn't make the QB a great one. Case in point Trent Dilfer.

Top 5 in my opinion and in no particular order.....

Farve
Moon
Marino
Young
and as much as I hate to say it Elway

Jim Brown
Gale Sayers
OJ Simpson
Walter Payton
LaDanian Tomlinson

No Barry Sanders (not enough TD's)
No Emmitt Smith (tough call there - I might pick him over Sayers on a different day)
No Earl Campbell (would have been if he had had a career)
No Bo Jackson (I think he could have been the best of all time)
No Red Grange (although he was awsome for his time)

OK, step away from the crack pipe.

Favre had his day, and 5 or 6 years ago I may have even agreed with you, but if I had to win a game tomorrow Favre would not even be in my top 5.

In no particular order: Brady, Brees, P. Manning, Hasselback, and Palmer. Honorable mention (but enough of a sample size to commit to): Rivers, Romo, and Cutler.

Davebud: How can you compare Dilfer to Brady? Dilfer: 1 SB. Brady: 3 SB and 2 SB MVP's. Its not hype when you have a fistful of rings and have played with different receivers just about every year.

That being said, having a good defense and a good line goes a long way to making a good QB. Case in point, Archie Manning. A great QB that never got a chance.

If you give Favre the same receivers and team that Brady has to work with he'd easily outplay him. The only one better in the league then Favre is Peyton Manning. (That is a quarterback!) You don't follow the Packers so you don't realize how many new systems and new receivers (most of them crummy) Favre has had to learn and work with. The stupid Thompson let's their whole offensive line and best receiver leave. Poor Favre is left with no protection and cruddy receivers. Let's see Brady deal with that that on a yearly basis and do as well as Favre.

seeing as how the chiefs are on a freight train going downhill for now....

go Vince Young!

Top 5 RB's
1) Barry Sanders-for having no team at all and still amassing the numbers he did....flat out amazing...
2) Walter Payton
3) Eric Dickerson
4) Marcus Allen
5) Larry Johnson...not yet, but he will be. I see LT getting a career ending injury in the next 4 years...don't ask why

Walter Peyton was a good running back but not great.

The best I've ever seen was Gale Sayers who's career was cut way short by a knee injury that nowadays would be simple to fix.

Barry Sanders like you said was one of the best.

Jim Brown, for those of us who've seen him run, was amazing. Certainly one of the best.

Unfortunately, the best running back I ever saw, is that murderer who got away with it.
