I used to be very well known for hitting better out of a fairway bunker than out of the fairway. Maybe not so much anymore.

I really think it was a matter of a fairway bunker would make me concentrate and focus more on clean contact. I really think the only reason it is not so much any more is I have better focus and concentration in doing the same out of the fairway. I just used to see a ball in the fairway and get lazy because it was supposed to be a simple shot. Out of the bunker I would focus 100%.

So in that relation, I really don't mind either, as long as it is a full shot, which for me and the wedges I carry is anything outside of 50 yards.

Mike, is that actually a bunker? (ie. a sand hazard). Some courses I've seen have a stretch of sand but it isn't classified as a 'bunker'.

i believe it's a waste bunker. so, there was no penalty for grounding his club.
