Thread: My Golf Swing- criticism is welcome

  1. My Golf Swing- criticism is welcome

I have a very flat swing plane and I have been working on getting it alittle steeper so my arm points at the ball at the top of my backswing. Any other questions/comments about the swing are welcome.

    Dude just my 2 cents

But that driver looks like its a mile long in your hands. How far are you hitting it, and do you hook or slice?

  3. Looks good dragon.

I must ask you though, that indoor range, where is it?
You listed your home course on another forum as Tunxis (I know it well). So I was wondering if this is a facility in CT.
There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

  4. Ya driver is standard size titlest 983k 9.5 degree its my friends, im not sure how many inches it is. Im 5' 8" and you can see that im chokeing down about 2 inches on it too.

I either slice, push, or pull the ball. I never draw or hook it unless im trying to.

The indoor range is in Bethany, CT its called Foreseasons Golf Range. I think you can find it by typing "Foreseasons Golf Connecticut" in google and it will bring up the website. I made those videos in February when I just started to learn the driver. Been going at it for alittle over a month now, but im still inconsistent with it.

I have been going at it with earnest

For about 6 months, and I am still not consistent with it. Last week I was hitting 320 and this week it was all I could do to hit 270, I did break a finger on my left hand in the mean time but I think it has more to do with not being 100% consistent in my swing.

  6. I drive it about 240-250 yards on average. I cant seem to get it much further than that unless I swing harder but it will slice nearly 90% of the time. How tall are you? I wish I could drive the ball 280-320 yards nothing wrong with that at all.

    I am 6 feet tall

My best friend is 5'8", he is a gymnast and has a lot of flexability and overall body strength. He can't seem to get past 250 either, of course I think if he would practice more with the driver and less with the 5 iron he might improve his groove. He has the downward striking plane going great its the flatter swing with the driver that is a problem. He has to choke down as well.

  8. I see. ya most of my friend are about 5' 8" too and they all drive about 250. I watch the pros who are shorter too like K.J choi, Shigeki Murayaman, and Carmillo Vargas all of them are aroudn 5'8" and drive the ball close to 300 or more. So that gives me some hope

You would think the flatter swing plane would develop more power, but i guess it doesnt. Does your friend choke down on his irons too? From about 6I and up i need to choke down alittle bit more because standard length is a bit much for me.

  9. I can't see it. I've tried it at home and on my work PC but it just shuts down my IE. I've said it before and I'll say it again, damn Putfile!

I'm 5.8 and last year drove around 240 on average on the monitor.
Tinkering with my swing, I reach 265 average this year. I've yet to see what happens in the real course this year.
How far you hit the ball has a lot to do on technique, then on speed (not strength).
With proper technique, you get the best launch angle, ball spin, clubhead lag and release, and free use of speed with less risk of making an error (ie. slice).

From what I can see in the video, in your setup in the profile, your hands are too far away from your body. If you let go of your right hand from the handle and let it drop, it should stay at the same distance as when you're holding the club.
Also, don't mind the flat swing, it's okay.

I'm probably the only user here in the entire forum who is self-taught, read and watch golf books video. So my advice may not be worth a penny.

Everybody else will tell you to get a lesson, and they are probably right.

BTW, if you want petit, look at Hidemichi Tanaka's swing.
    He's 5.6, 138 lbs and drives 285

  11. Yeah my hands are kind of far from my body. I started bringing them alittle closer and it also helps me get a slightly steeper swing than the one in the video.

Im trying to get the perfect swing for my body type so I can maximize everything for the most amount of distance and control.

As for lessons, im going to wait alittle bit on them. I been playign 8 months and been making steady progress. I study alot on the game and different techniques etc. So when I go to the range I can analyze myself and I know what needs fixing. Its just a matter of actually executing it. But it is always nice getting a 2nd opinion on things thats what is so great about forums.

Ya I know of the golfer but I dont have any videos of his driver only his 3 iron and its from a backside angle. You can just see him shifting the weight into it. My swing has alot less action so I dont see myself driving it past 260 for awhile.
