Super Bowl Sunday is a great day for Golf

I headed out this morning to play a round with my son. He's 21 and has only played 4 rounds of golf in his life.

The course was pretty empty. No tee times were booked after 9am. Weather was perfect... 75 and sunny.

We showed up about 30 minutes early, so my son only had time to hit a few balls. After watching him struggle with his 3-wood, I suggested he play the entire round with his irons. He ended up using only 5 clubs all day, 5, 7, 9, W and putter. He shot an even 100. Not bad for his 5th round ever, on a course with a slope of 135.

I tied my best-ever round on this course with a 75 with 3 3-putts! Argh. I got a little help on my score when I holed a shot from 102 yards out on 16 with a 3/4 SW! My first eagle from the fairway.

You can bet I'll make Super Bowl Sunday a golf day again next year.

Ya, my course was pretty empty too. Maybe it had to do with the foot of snow and below zero temps...

Seriously...great that you can play during the winter. Some of the best days on the course are during the Masters, or a big golf tourney...essentially empty courses while people watch on TV.

During ND home games around here (South Bend) is always good, too...except I am in front of the Tv then.

It became a tradition for me to play before the Superbowl. Tee off at 8:30, miss all the pregame hype, take a nap, and be in time for the game.

I would have loved to, but the whole family watches the Super Bowl.

When I was about 4 years old, I wanted to be 2 things. A professional quarterback(which I played some in High School), and a professional golfer.

*shrug* I love both sports.

There were some groups behind us who teed off as late as 11:30 and still finished in time to get home to watch the kickoff - which was the highlight of the game for Bear fans. I too would definitely rather be out playing than watching the pregame hype... need to find something to do during halftime now too.

I was disappointed in Prince, and very much in Billy Joel. I mean, I know Billy Joel is a lot better than that.

i was gonna squeeze in a round but the 3` of snow and head high snow banks slowed my swing speed to much and the cart kept getting stuck.
