Requesting Advice for a Golf Trip Location

I'd appreciate hearing suggestions for a location in the U.S. on where to take a golf trip. There are 8 guys in my group, and we're looking for a trip where golf will be the premiere event (i.e., we're not interested in going to strip clubs at night and drinking ourselves silly only to slop ourselves around the course the next day). The other criteria we have is that we're not thrilled with having to drive a long distance to and between courses. We've all been to Pinehurst and would be thrilled to return, but I'd be curious to hear about some other good spots from some folks. Many thanks in advance.

Not many places that fit this request better than Carmel, CA. Home of Pebble Beach and 10 other beautiful courses within a 20 minute drive. The courses are not cheap though and I have know idea what kind of budget you're on

I have been looking at the Scottsdale area. There is a place called Meridian Condo Resort that offers stay and play from condo's.They have packages at quite a few courses including 18-36 & unlimited golf. Some very interesting looking courses on their site.I do not work or have any relationship with them so this is not spamming, just somewhere I am looking at.

Myrtle Beach should definitely be at the top of your list. Drop us a line if you have any questions, thanks.

Palm Springs? Never been, but Google Maps shows nothing but golf courses. Since you are in Charlotte, Myrtle Beach is a quick run, but I live in the area and can play anytime (okay for 3 weeks a year it's too cold for me, but other than that...)

Jacksonville, Fl? Hilton Head? If the trip is coming up soon, I'd avoid Orlando since they are digging out of the storm damage.

Next month we're taking a similar trip (12 guys) to the Robert Trent Jones golf trail in Alabama. We're playing 36 holes a day, six days in a row, 12 different courses. And while I've never been there before there are some great looking courses.

Myrtle Beach may be my first choice for both courses and cost, but seeing your username, and assuming that means you are from Charlotte. The Carolinas may not be a big thing for you.

It may depend heavily on the time of the year you choose to go. Vegas and Arizona are always nice choices assuming you are not going in the brutally hot summer months.

If during the summer, I am kind of biased to my home area. Alot of cheap courses at really reasonable prices. Williamsburg and Virginia Beach area has alot of Courses, although again, close to were you live.

Orlando is nice if you can deal with the people outside of the golf courses, plus it can be fairly costly. Based on the fact that it would be miserable the same time of the year I would opt for Vegas and Arizona over Florida. Vegas may be one of my top choices, especially this time of the year, as you can get cheap travel and board. Although the courses cost a little more.

Where I would really like to go, and plan on doing so in the next few years is up to Bandon Dunes, but I expect it will cost a mint.

Northern Michigan, especially in the Traverse City and Gaylord area boasts some of the finest courses in the country acording to Golf Digest. Courses like Arcadia Bluffs near Manistee and Shanty Creek near Traverse City as well as Tree Tops in Gaylord are great summer time courses to play as the weather rarely gets uncomfortable to play.

Here are some links fo ryou: http://www.arcadiabluffs.com/
http://www.shantycreek.com/golf/index.html
http://www.treetops.com/index.php?method=golf

You could stay very busy up there for at least a week and not play anything twice!

It's a long way for you guys down in Charlotte, but you should definitely think of playing the interior of British Columbia, the Okanagan region. It's really spectacular scenery, and most courses are built by world famous course designers like Nicklaus, ect.

Here's a couple that are worth travelling for:

Predator Ridge

Hyde Mountain

The Bear and The Quail at Okanagan

Here's a link that list all the courses in this area, from North to South. Beautiful scenery, wonderful people and world class food and beer.

How can you lose?

This is just a sample of that area, just outstanding...

New Mexico honestly is a great place. Why? More than 8 courses, some are world class(as said by Golf Digest, and other mags), and most are under 50 a round. Some as cheap as 17.

Tell me about your trip...what courses are you playing and in what sequence?

I've played quite a few of them...

Bravo:

I'm not 100% sure of all of the details as I wasn't in charge of making the plans. But I think this is what we're doing, and as you can see it 6 courses, (12 rounds; 800am & 1:00pm each day). With lodging at the Capitol Hill Marriott, and The Ross Bridge Resort.

Capitol Hill - The Legislator Course
Capitol Hill - The Judge Course

Capitol Hill - The Senator Course
Capitol Hill - The Judge Course

Capitol Hill - The Judge Course
Capitol Hill - The Senator Course

Ross Bridge
Oxmoor Valley - The Ridge Course

Oxmoor Valley - The Valley Course
Ross Bridge

Oxmoor Valley - The Ridge Course

Any comments about any of the courses would be appreciated.
