Pinehurst??

OK, so I was talking to my boss yesterday and he wants me across in April to the US. We are going to visit customers in Orlando, New Orleans, and North Carolina, which means taking in a w/e. He has a condo in NC and threw in a line "perhaps we could look at getting a game at Pinehurst, I've been meaning to play one of those course for a while. You play a bit, right?".

So poker faced I replied "yeah, that could be cool" (Inside I'm screaming like a child WHOOOOOHOOO!!).

It's my 40th in May so I'm thinking of treating myself to something like this anyway, so this could be it.

Some questions, anyone played there, what is the best value of all the 'Hirsts? What is the Must Play (chance in a lifetime!!)?
Should I bring my clubs all the way across US to get one game, albeit a BIG game? He says he can lend me a set.
Should I tell Mrs. IG about the w/e? She's always pissed when I have to travel because of work. Throwing in "oh, year I'll be away the w/e too but it's OK cuz I'm getting a game at Pinehurst!" might lose me my manhood!

#2 is the killer at Pinehurst. Too tough for most people.
#4 & #8 are supposed to be the next best.

I was hoping to get there this winter, but between playing crappy golf and having no money, I bagged it. Maybe next year.

I think it would be a shame to play the Pinehurst resort without your own clubs. You could Fedex them to the resort if your worried about them getting lost.

I'm visiting sssmokin and at his house. He has played Pinehurst (and shot very well there). Here is sssmokin's take on it...

Hi Irishgolfer, My brother is logged in, so I'm just adding to his reply. It's been almost 15 years since I played Pinehurst, but I'll never forget it. I'll go back yet someday..............what a fantastic layout. I was playing in my prime then, so did quite well..........low 40s for all 4 9s that I played. It was like Augusta ..............every hole was gorgeous. Very tough, but fair. I'm not positive, but I believe I played Course #1 one day and Course#3 later that week. I think they have 8 total..........been so long that I was there. It was the older ones, but all looked great. sssmokin

That is a lot of dough..though it would be magic to play it just once in your life. Would be nice to get to play, say, 20 courses that you would really like to play.

On subject of course prices, we are keeping our prices at £70 weekday & £90 weekend / bank holidays this year, so that should remain to attract all the big players in the Irish Golf Tour field, as well as those just coming over on their own organised trip.
We have made one or two changes to the course, so anyone aiming to play golf in the British Isles this year, get yourself to Portstewart golf club on the north coast of Ireland: you'll be in for a treat...

I went to the 1999 US Open which was held on #2....You've simply got to play that one....very small, crowned greens with "rolloff areas" surrounding the greens. ONe of the world's greatest....Donald Ross masterpiece.

Wish I had played it, but sadly must report I only walked it while watching the tourney...
