How many shots you would spot Tiger

Remember we hacked through a thread about how many shots we would spot Tiger. Well I found this, because you never hear about what the pro's handicaps are: (hope this is not treason to link to another golf site  )

Ahhhh.....!!! That brings a tear to my eye. So basically I gotta be a +7 just to keep a card out there, and be almost double digit + to get in the top 30.

So realistically i'd be getting 14 strokes from Tiger to make it a "fair" match? Thats unreal. Although innacurate i think. I make a lot of pars and 4-5 birdies a round usually, Tiger makes a lot of pars and 4-5 birdies. I bogey while he pars and when i birdie theres really not too much he can do against my "eagle". With 14 strokes im pretty sure I could take Mr. Eldrick Woods.

    +13.75, thats unfrickinbelieveable.

You fail to take into account the course set up Tigers cap is based on compared to yours. They are not even in the same ballpark.

I agree. The courses and greens they play are so much tougher than what we play.

I did too when I read that.

Most people underestimate just how good the average pro is. Not PGA tour pro but down the line even, nationwide, hooters ect. Tiger is the best player in the world, he would slaughter you. Simple as that.

I read a quote from a tour caddy once that said "the general public has no idea how good these guys are. Take your clubs best player and give him 10 stokes, and the worst player on tour would wax him seven ways to Sunday"

  9. Tiger could give me 100 strokes and with him watching me swing on the first tee, I would hit it 10 yards, lol. As great as Tiger is on PGA Tour courses, I think he would be unbeatable on our average courses. Just my 2 cents. I read that he routinely shoots 60-61 at Ilseworth his home course. He also has broken 60 a few times there as well. I watched Couples and Daly play the Canadian Skins Game a few years ago and I watched them hit shots that I didn't think were possible. IMO the PGA pros are playing a game we can only dream about.

  10. Exactly.

A few years back the Canadian tour held a stop in Sarnia where I was living at the time. It was called the bayer championship and held at Huron Oaks golf club. This is the same track Mike Weir learned the game and grew up at. I have played this course about 100 times, my best score being an even par 72.

The course set up for the bayer was unlike anytime I had ever seen. The rough was over 3 inches long, and the greens which are always very fast were lightning. The course is not long at only 6400 yards but is one of the tightest tracks I have ever played. Jason Bohn went around in 26-32 for a nice comfy 58.
His scorecard from that is visable here

  12. I will still never forget...during my short unillustrious professional career. I played my FIRST ever pro event on the Space Coast Tour down in Orlando. It was a 3 day event that cost $575....I shot 68 68 68 on a par 72 and I finished 12th and made $975. Talk about an eye opener!!!

Well..... he's a +14 on PGA tour course, and I'm a 7.5 on a normal 6800 yard course. So, I'd need 22 for the cap difference and probably 6 or 7 for the course difference. Throw in about ten for the fact of playing with Tiger.

    Thats....uhm......wow. I suck.
    Annual bag refreshening almost complete...

  14. I read once in Golf Mag or Golf Digest that the difference between a scratch golfer and an tour pro is about equivalent to the difference between a scratch golfer and a 15 hadicap golfer. That tells me all I need to know, I once had a thought that if I stopped working and really practiced EVERY day I could get to the point of being good enough to play on the Nationwide Tour. Boy was I ever wrong. I am happy being a weekend duffer/club ho, although I wouldnt mind being able to play more...
Blew up the bag, not sure what's going in next...
    Any suggestions?

  15. Reading this thread reminded me of Ian Baker Finch. At one time, he was considered one of the 20 best in the world and then all of a sudden, he couldn't break 80. I remember him as a short hitter with a wicked short game, especially putting. How the hell does he fall so far so fast ? It's one thing for us to dream of being a Tour Pro, but to have been there and won the Open and then completely lose it, must have been brutal. Good commentator though.
