The 'tour van' phenomenon

Is this also a growing thing in the US? On Ebay over here there is a growing number of clubs being described as 'toru van'.Its just ridiculous.I know half a dozen pros, and they no other pros blah blah blah, and these guys do not get clubs off a van. They get clubs off reps, and they all just get pretty standard clubs, apart from taller guys who get longer irons, one of them has 2 degs flat and of course they ask for certain shafts. But what has that got to do with a bloody van? Its presented as if they have had some sort of magic potion waved over them.Even a club that has been customised will be what exactly, maybe ported,so thats 2 ugly holes drilled in them, had some bounce ground off, which any club pro can do and maybe bent,so what? again any club pro can do.

This tour van nonsense is on the whole just a silly pisstake, and to boot these clubs are well used, there are many many other better condition examples that haven't been used to practice with for hours everyday

I suppose 'straight from tour rep' doesn't sound so good

I totally agree Dave. And the joke is that some clown will buy this thinking it will make a difference to his game. I'll bet that 2nd hand club goes for at least £75. What a rip off.

I have a "tour van/rep" titleist sand wedge. Bought it from my "club rep" . I don't play with it though, it just looks cool.....it's unfinished just grind marks on it and says titleist on the side. People that buy these clubs to get better are just crazy.

I have a Tour Van Launcher. But there's no way to tell that it's Tour, other than by it's performance.

$1500. Shipping included.

Meh, to be honest, a fitted club to you, one that you hit well personally, will always be better than Tour Van.

My take on this has always been that if you get a true tour club, it was probably built with a specific tour player in mind in regard to shaft, lie, grip, etc. So, unless you play the exact club that pro plays, you didn't really get a club that's any better for you than one you could've bought off the rack.

Yeah, it'll make a nice conversation piece, but until you alter it to your swing, it's not really helping your game.

Once you alter it, is it really tour anymore?

All tour clubs are are clubs that are hand picked, fitted properly, and consistant from club to club. This is something any good clubfitter can do. I have all my components hand picked from suppliers. Tour is nothing special, its only the people hawking TOUR gear that want you to think it is.

If you really want to puke over the "tour van" stuff, head on over to bombsquadgolf.
