Tiger plays 3 scratch players and kills them

I just heard on TGC that Tiger played 3 scratch players, one being pitcher John Smoltz at his home course and played from the Tiger tees. He let them play their best ball against his ball, and he won 16 of 18 holes, lol. What a great round that would be, win or lose.

that doesnt make sense, 3 scratch players playing better should par every hole minium, so tiger should need a birdie to beat them, and it'd be hard to get 16 birdies, even for tiger. but i guess you never know with tiger and it wasnt set up as a tour course so the pins would be easy.

Seemed a little weird to me too. Kelly Tilghman was talking about it today during the Match Play. She might have gotten the info wrong, but I doubt it.

Jim

Its nonsense, these guys are not scratch golfers.3 ball better ball scratch golf from say a club like Birkdale or Hillside would never in a million years lose 16 holes. This is yet another example of the strange handicapping system you have over there

at worst on a tour prepared course 3 scratch golefrs would be 2 or 3 over better ball,Tiger diod not shoot 58 to win.

Its a nine story, totally. They have either got in wrong or these guys are no better than 4/5 handicap

I find it hard to believe as well Dave. That is what she said, whether it is 100% accurate, only Tiger and the 3 guys know for sure. If the 3 guys play anything like the low cappers at the Pebble Beach Pro am, they are more like 10's instead of scratch. One thing I know for sure is John Smoltz can play. He has played in a few tournaments on TV and he is a very good player. A round with Tiger would be fun regardless.

They played from the Tiger tees, that would make it a little tougher.

Being from the "Tiger tees" it makes it at least possible. If it were just from the normal tees, I wouldn't believe it at all. I completely agree with the few in the other thread who say they could beat Tiger if given a reasonable amount of strokes. As long as they played him from standard tees on a regular course (not a US Open layout)

This is what the pressure of TIGER does to people.
TIGER has an ability to intimidate like no athlete before him, and IMO no athlete again ever will.

Imagine the first 2 guys hitting poor shots, the third guy hitting doesnt have a chance. They would be trying to hard, tense as hell, and this would only snowball if Tiger was playing well.

The mans a freak, simple as that.

Look at how he intimidates other PROS, guys who are supposed to be able to handle the pressure!! I'm not in the least surprised that he would destroy a trio of scratch players from the those tees. I don't understand why it would surprise anyone. Tiger is what, 10 strokes better than the the average scratch player? He shoots mid 60's on courses set up like they haven't even imagined. Even a so-called scratch player has his limitations. Most often those handicaps are not established on courses that play well over 7000 yards at sea level. And they aren't established playing under the pressure of trying to beat the #1 player in the world.

ok, just heard Kelly Tilghman (sp?) during the match play. She said 3 well known "ATHLETES", and ONE of them was a scratch golfer.

Not all of them. All of them im sure Tiger still coulda won, just not 16 of 18 vs. three TRUE scratch best ball.
