Lightning, thunder and snow

Well, this morning I woke up to a nasty storm (March roars in like a lion) with sleet, freezing rain and heavy, wet snow alternating to make travel similar to those videos R35 and others posted awhile ago. It was also lightning and thundering. A strange combination and if you've ever been in one of these storms the lightning is real low!! You could only go 35 mph with the tires in the "grooves" made by other drivers. If you got out of the groove look out. All kinds of cars in the ditches. Took me one hour to drive 20 miles to work. The road crews are "saving money" by not making the roads safe for rush hour. Man, this is fun...

WBL for safety sake you'd better stay at work tonite instead of driving home.

The greatest fear living in the snow bound areas, getting stuck at work because the roads have been closed and the plows have been pulled off the road.

For us it is supposed to snow all day and make the afternoon rush hour hellacious. My employer decided to reserve a few rooms at the hotels downtown in case it was so bad that people couldn't/shouldn't drive home. I take the public transportation (bus), so don't have to worry so much about getting home. Just will have to unbury my car at the park-n-ride.

Drive safe and slow.

Still, wet snow is better than solid sheets of ice. That's all we seem to get anymore is ice on the roads.

That is, when we get anything. Going to be 70º in NC today. We're getting lucky on the weather right now.

We're having thunderstorms here today as well, but the big difference is that it is 70*F.

The early azaleas are starting to bloom while the camelias are still blooming. Pear trees are blooming and my maple trees are budding.

Damn bermuda grass is still dormant.

We got 8" of snow yesterday. Normally, it takes me 6 minutes to drive to work. This morning, 24.

2 more inches expected today, too.

We were hit by "snowstorm Edward" and while they received much more snow in Northern Wisconsin, my area received about 7" but winds hit 35mph, so coming home (40 miles) from work this morning, I was bucking 1' and 2' snow drifts acrossed the road in the open areas. Like hitting a foot high speed bump. Have to go through this again going in tonight.
