This is going to be a sweet season

Regular Play officially starts tomorrow. This season is going to be incredible. Last year we played a public course and it was always crowded and sometimes in not good shape. This year we get to play a super nice private country club! Last year our coach wasn't that good and he was a pathetic coach. This year our coach is from France and he is a 0 handicap. He has taught me more in 2 days than i have learned in 2 years with the other coach. Also this year we got Titleist x66 stand bags for free!(we get to keep them too!). Every normal round we play(3 times a week) we get titleist and nike balls provided for us, and ever match we play we get a sleeve of pro v1 or pro v1x's provided for us. Everything about this season owns last season im so excited.

I also moved from playing number 6, which i didn't get to travel cuz only top 5 travels, to playing number 2! Coach told me that he expects me to break 80 this year no problem which was a nice compliment.

To all the other high school/college kids here: What is playing on your team like?

Highschool golf was fun, we were a first year team, so we didnt have some of the things you guys did. It was a blast, free golf all summer. Free range balls 3 days a week. The only thing i wish, is i would have cared more. Practice was at 7am every morning, and my buddy and I would show up hungover, and started hiding beer/liquor in our golf bags for when the coach was with another group. It was a blast getting to golf all the nice courses we'd never get to play, and excitement from accually having a small gallery of 30-50 people watch us tee off was awesome.

Goodluck!

What year are you?

I loved High School golf, I hated my coaches though, they were aweful.
As far as Collegiate Golf, my practice and some lessons with them, it's a different ballgame, it's serious.

I wish you all the best this season as well.

I don't "officially" work with a couple of the local high school teams but I play with the guys in the afternoons since they practice at one of my clubs. I show them that an "old fart" (well, at 44 I'm an old fart to them) can whip them pretty good most days with a near scratch short game. They bomb it way past me but they can't chip and putt like I do.

Their coaches keep telling them that scoring "ugly" the way I do is no accident.

my coach sucks, he doesnt teach us anything, all we do is play at a crappy local muni and nobody cares, expect me and a few others. We got jackets if we paid the $60 for it and were still waiting for our hats. We sometimes got top flites before our matches. But we were a good team(we won our leauge), but sent nobody to districts. We had incredible depth. Our best player was a 6 or 7 and our worst was an 11 or 12 (for starters).

Anyway, i might sound like im b******* and i did go on a bit of a rant because we could be so good if we had a decent coach and a couple more kids who cared but its still a great expereince and i had fun(mostly because we screwed around so much) cant wait for next year and hopefully college.

yeah well being serious is nice but he also lets us screw around some, that's half the fun of golf!

our old coach let us do whatever we wanted...

quick story, We were waiting to leave for a tournament and one kid was late, so we were waiting in the parking lot of the school and we were all swingin the club around and such and so across the field is this church and there was an empty parking lot with a big truck parked in it. One of the kids goes, "hey coach i bet ya 5 bucks i could hit that truck" and coach just laughed and said "well ok sure good luck" , it was a good 260 yards and so the kid teed it up and tried it. Yeah he defanitly hit the truck, ON THE FLY, it was a sweet drive and coach just laughed and didn't care.

Your coach sounds just like my highschool coach. He was a total *******, every year he would give a speech that went "im not a teacher im a coach, so dont expect anything." It sucked that we played in fall though. I'm looking forward to my first college season next year, only one year left to practice.

Our "golf coach" couldn't even play. I could beat him with one club and a putter. He just scheduled everything and took care of the paper work. We worked on our games with the pro at our home course. We just went to the course and whoever wanted to work with the pro did that and everyone else played nine. About once a week we "stole" a cart and could play about 14 or 15 before dark. Those were the days. I will now give some advice....take it as seriously as you can and still have fun. I have much better fundamentals now then I did back then. But my short game in high school was amazing. I could scramble with the best of them. It's pretty amazing what playing all the time can do for your game. My swing is so much better now but I smoked it in high school. Oh well...........

God I love HS golf I was a frosh last year and number 1 on our freshmen team (would've made varisty but they dont put freshmen on varsity because of the amount of school you miss) me and some of the other guys got real tight and our coach is awesome too I will beat him this season but hes a great guy and is strict yet has fun. Ill be varsity this year along with probably 3 other guys from the freshmen team last year, I have a feeling these are going to be the best times of my life.

Sounds like you play for a pretty classy HS where they provide you with all that equipment. And now you have a good coach. Kick some butt!!

Hell, kids on my team do the oppisite, 8 is right next to five so some kids often skip 6 and 7. Nobody really cares, most of em do it because their parents want them to because it looks good on college transcripts

If i wouldnt have playing HS golf, i would have never found possibly the greatest obsession i have dug myself into. We would practice at 7, play 9 or 18, go grab breakfast, come back play another 9 or 18. Go home, hang out with the lady friends, come back around 6, get 9 more in. This was about a 5 day a week thing. The sad thing is, i dropped the most weight this summer playing golf, then any years in football and i kept lifting the same.

My high school team played a very nice private course and we were allowed to play all through the summer there as well. Didn't get anything for free, but got a very nice discount through the pro shop. As far as the coach, he was a solid player, but we taught ourselves, my good friend won the state tournament his junior and senior years and I finished third and fourth so we ran the practices.

College was short for me, only played for two seasons because I started my PGA apprenticeship the summer after my sophomore year and was not eligible to play for the team. I still practiced with the team as a sort of assistant coach and got PGA credits for it which was nice. We were provided ProV1 and Prov1x golf balls for tournament use and were able to play a nice private country club about 45 minutes from campus once a week. Coach in college was a solid teacher, but he didn't give me much since I was on my own program as far as developing my game.
