What's your best range story?

Anyone wanna share some stories about "some guy" at the range that really made you mad or made you laugh for days?.

I love range stories.

Think that hitting the range cart is an old range and golf tradition? They don't think so in Central PA. I'm hitting balls one day when the range decides to pick balls. No problem, except that the bozo thinks he needs to pick the balls twenty yards out, passing directly in front of me numerous times. I let him get out to about one hundred yards, then put a nice low hook right into the side of the cart. This guy stops and get out, shouting "Hey, *******!" The owner of the range shouts "Maybe we should take your car out there!" at me. I was stunned. I made some comments about being nice being a two way street and what not, but not much more. Argueing with idiots just makes you look like an idiot.

No funny range stories but when I used to play in the company (anybody can play) league there was one guy on the other team we were playing who hit his drive and it hit the ball washer in front of the tee blocks, came whizzing back at us, we ducked and it went about 150 yards back of the tee blocks. We were rolling on the ground laughing so hard....

Another time we were playing in a best ball outing and had the cart parked about even with the tee blocks. I was sitting in the cart and this guy hits his ball. It went straight right. I was looking ahead and this ball goes whizzing right in front of my nose! If I got hit by that I would've been dead. But it was another time to roll on the ground laughing...

Now you got me going...

We had this heavy guy (pretty round) with curly hair who thought he was the greatest thing to golf since Tiger. He wore this "headband" and shorts golfing. One outing he really took a cut at one (probably sucking in his gut) and his shorts dropped right down to his ankles. This was the first tee with a big crowd (and women) around. NOW you talk about falling down on the ground laughing!! He was also a big shot at work. I'm a pretty good cartoonist (was going to be my life's work once) so drew a PERFECT likeness of him swinging with his shorts down by his knees and white boxers with hearts on them. They printed it in the company paper! With the caption "we just want to show you what went down that day"!!

Okay, I'm done....

Pretty much every time I go down the range I see something that I think on my drive home I ought to come on here and post!

Last week I saw a Korean guy taking a lesson from one of the range pros that was devoted solely to putting. As it was so cold and the putting green frozen I was treated to the sight of a guy in expensive golf clothes, Ecco shoes and a beautiful Scotty Cameron Newport Putter paying $120 an hour to go round the novelty mini-golf course behind the main range with a PGA Teaching Pro.

Sometimes I go down to the booths at the far extremes of the range (my local range has 95 enclosed booths and 32 outdoor grass booths) and find the illicit non-registered teachers pretending to have a range session, but actually giving lessons to people and hoping no-one notices. A couple of months back I ended up next to one with a swing that would make some of the Big Break contestants feel a bit embarrassed trying to impart his knowledge on some poor sap for a reduced rate. His lesson seemed to be to get his pupil to hit one shot, then take the club from him, tell him something major he was doing wrong and hit 6 shots with the pupil's clubs before handing them back. The pupil would hit more, and he'd be pulled up for another major swing issue, watch the teacher hit another 6, and so on and so on.

My absolute favourites are some of the older guys, or the middle aged guys with their kids, who position themselves next to you, try and peek at what club you're using, pull the same club and proceed to see if they can hit it further than me! You Just KNOW they're doing it as they keep peeking over, and watch to see your shot land before they hit into the same direction themselves! The ones with the kids seem the worst as they really seem to want to impress, but I've had a couple of older guys move booths in annoyance when they realise I'm actually hitting a hybrid and not a small-headed driver like them. And I'm not even an above-average hitter in terms of length.

Don't even get me started on the middle-aged Japanese woman I was once next to who took out her putter and proceeded to hit balls out into the range with that, all ending up about 5 yards in front of her booth...

Last range session the only open mat was behind a little kid.

First issue was the maniac and his baseball swings which sent his club head dangerously close to my face.

Second issue was me swinging my driver HARD and I see this kid running to get the ball he just nubbed in front of me, maybe 3 feet out. You guys see Tiger check his swing at the MAsters? Well, that was me, except I already have a bad back and a healing hernia surgery, felt like someone beat my abdomena and lower back with a Heavy Putter. Had to stop swinging with 3/4 of a bucket left.

Gave it to the kid because I felt good about not killing the little dude with a range ball. His head and chest were RIGHT THERE in the launch path. I don't need that stress anyway, so I left.

Found it....

"One time i was working at an insurance office for a summer. It payed well, and the girls that worked there were spectacular. Even cuter than Buddha.

Anyways, one afternoon it was really nice, and I just had to get to the range. I was wearing more office style attire, so i ripped home and got changed into some shorts and headed out.

Now, i must tell you, that i was in quite the rush, and it was seriously hot out (the temperature will come into play later). I got to the range and it wasn't too busy. Perfect. I paid for my bucket and went out to stretch out.

After hitting a few warm-up shots, another guy and his GF came to the range. She sat down to watch this dolt slash balls like slices were saving his life. Anyways, i had my sunglasses on and was checking her out from afar. She "seemed" to be checking me out as well. She had a great face and body, and she seemed to smile everytime i would gather another ball to the tee to skillfully laser it into the field.

I did this for at least 10 more minutes, where i then needed to adjust my glove. I leaned the grip of my club against my crotch, or where i thought my crotch would be, only to find that my fly was 100% open. Right down to the last tooth on the zipper. Nice. And, to make matters worse, i was wearing boxers that had no buttons or securing item to hold back the goods.

Yes, i was flailing in the wind. Out there and loving every minute of it.

Well, needless to say, i felt awesome. Not only was this girl checking out my junk, she was laughing. Personally, i don't think it should be laughed at, but hey, what do I know....

Aw, that was horrible. I came home completely obliterated of any sense of self esteem and told my GF. She laughed harder than she ever has. How didn't I notice the fact that I was not zipped? I must be mental, i swear.

I showed her tho. I spent to rest of the evening walking around with "it" hanging out of my pants. Oh ya, got her good...."

I duno, today at the range some guy was slashing balls around the practise green and me and my friend were having a putting comp. We putt to this hole like 50 yards away and while we walk over he putts to it too. He putts his balls right onto our lines and i go up and just move them aside (me, the actual golfer, him being some scruffy guy yelling the whole time "i should go back to pool"). He turns to me and says (actually) WTF do you think your doing?!?! Theres like 10 other holes and you move my balls (which are like 2 ft from the cup). I just kinda laughed and ignored him and we went on. We putt back around the green and he's goin off to his buddy about "that kid who has no respect". We just ignore him and as we leave he pipes back up "Well, good things those f-in kids are gone and we can start hittin some real golf shots".

This got to my friend as he was gettin tired of listenin to him, i found it quite funny. My friend challenges him to a round for his car, the guy laughs saying "i wouldnt take a kid's first car away from him". My friend takes his putter from his hands and aims over at the hole this guy was putting too (and not getting anywhere close) and drains it, tells him he should get the hell off the course and go back to his basement and play pool.

Ive never laughed so hard in my life

at the course my team practiced at last year there was a huge practice facility. On one side of the range near the irons only section was a huge telephone pole structure thing out about 75 yards. We would always have compitions to see who could hit the pole, and if you hit the little metal things hanging from the poles it was double points. Well one day my buddy gets the brilliant idea that goin at the pole with a pitching wedge isn't any fun and we wanted to try and hit it with the driver. Well we tried, and i was the first one to hit the pole, the ball came flying back at us and it hit my coach who was watching us do this. We laughed pretty hard.

We also had good times trying to hit the ball picker upper cart. Luckily at this course the guys driving it were always young guys who didn't care and would just tease us by driving like 50 yards from the tees really slowly. He would then taunt us with remarks, good fun. One kid who was pretty good at hitting really low drives tried to drill him when he came around again at like 50 yards out. He did and all we heard was "OH S***!......NICE SHOT!" it was funny.

HAH! that's a good one.

I hate people that treat ALL juniors like crap just because of the fact that they are indeed Jr's. You can imagine some people wern't happy when I played in the Mens Club Championship last year. But as far as im concerned, If I meet the standards I have to in order to play, then im playing. Suck it the hell up.

A couple years ago I got hit in the back with a ball, hit by the guy behind me. He said "Oh sit", then was gone so fast it's as if he never was there. It was super.

Yea, some ppl just gota suck some things up, but i have played with some great guys and actually play with the same group of guys at least once a month that i met at my home course as a single.

At my new club, they wont even let the Jrs. play in the mens events, because the top 5 jrs there are all better then the top player of the mens club! (yes, im included in the top 5 jr.)

So I'm at the range today, practicing my lag putts, and a couple of punk kids start moving them out of the way.......
