Actually, I've been told that Natchez is one of the few sites where pre-"War of Northern Aggression" (Civil War to those of you not familiar with the aggressive nature of US Northern states) plantation homes still stand because there were a number of Northern sympathizers in the area and Union troops were ordered not to destroy them.
