Ebay 2nd chance offer?

How many of you have been contacted by sellers after the bidding has ended and you haven't won, to buy the item for a lower price. In the last 6 months it has happened 5 times by different sellers, as far as I know, but all Ping clubs and decent ratings..Fairway woods. The unusual part is the fact that I'm not even close to the winning bidder.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Yeah, I've had a few. Mostly R7425's and 460's last year. Probably mostly fake one's too.

There's a warning on the e-bay site about that and not to do it.

You have to go with your gut feeling on Ebay for sure. But, often times, buyers can be just as "sketchy" as some sellers.

Ex: I just recently sold a pair of Cleveland 588 wedges. Ended at about $20 more than I paid for them, I was happy. Send invoice, no response for 2 days. Finally I ask the guy to please contact me with his intentions so we can either complete the deal or move on.

Get this, he writes me saying he felt the wedges did not get the price they deserve and I should relist to get more for such classic wedges....ummm, ok

So, I sent off a second chance offer to the next in line and he paid immediately. An hour after the second chance guy paid, the first guy wrote again saying if I had any issue at all, he would, out of obligation, take the clubs I let him know all was well and his chance was gone, buh-bye!

Peace, B

I agree, as little as I buy on there, it has happened to me a couple times. If you really want the item, I would go through the bid history and find the last bid that was not a result of the winner and offer that. In doing so it backfired even worse in that other possible bidders didn't bid because of a higher price. Then tell them if they don't sell it to you for that, you will be reporting the higher bidder. Where if it is them, it may be tracked back. Kinda like blackmail, where if it is not them they will be happy you are reporting the other bidder.

Personally I doubt I would ever buy from them though.

My favorite is getting second chance offers on stuff I've never bid on. I always send an e-mail back with some ridiculous offer, that's usually the end of it.

"Second chance! I feel so priviledged. I'll give you $12,000 for that Audi starter and wiring kit."

Just tell them to send you the item first, and when you receive it you will send them a check.

For the most part I have had pretty good luck on Ebay. Only once, that I can remember, did I get an item the didn't work when it showed up.

Most times then not.. its a scam. I had a guy try to get me to buy a Harley a couple yrs ago when I got screwed out of the deal after we made a deal. 2 days later someone else pretending to be this buyer under another name tried to get me to buy it as he was in England and wasn't able to do the deal personally... the original owner lived 35 miles from me and he had my phone #

it has only happened to me twice.once i bought the item and had no probs the other time it was something i had all ready bought from somewhere else so i didnt respond.

but i try not to buy much off e-bay without checking it out and also the seller.id rather pay an extra $10 for something from a store where i now the product is legit then save $10 and get the shaft.

Shill bidding was my first thought, which annoys me. So I have stayed away. And the offers usually say the original bidder didn't want it. In the past I track the winning bidders and the sellers left no neg. feedback for backing out of the deal.
