Wie in the British Open?

Michelle Wie could "qualify" for the Men's British Open if she finishes as the highest unexempt player in qualifying rounds. She then would be eligible to apply to play with her unexempt status, and from what I read out of the committee's decisions, she's a shoe-in (they've even changed the language for registration to allow her to play....)

But let me ask this. Shouldn't she have to win on the LPGA at least once to be able to get into qualifying rounds?

What happened to proving yourself first? If anyone should be there, it should be Annika.

The PGA is a gong show. Exemptions and media frenzies like this make me frown.

I'm all for women playing on the professional tour, they should have to earn it like everyone else.

Couldn't agree with you more Rockford. Annika should definately be at top of the list for women. I would be fine with Wie playing in on the PGA Tour if she went through qualifying school like everyone else has to. She definatley has not proven that she is even close to being worthy of getting all these exemptions.

Well when she shoots 100 out there maybe, they'll start to re-think just letting people into these events, that haven't earned their way in.

Its one thing for her to prove herself and get there, it's another for them to let her in a snubb some guy who grinds it out everyweek, just trying to get int othese events.

That's a terrible attitude, but very popular as well. Unfortunate that the game itself comes under fire because of the almighty dollar.

These guys play golf for money. Golf. And alot of money.

And you know who pays for that? Us.

Very troubling.

It's become very obvious that's it's all about the money. The girl does have talent but hey, how about you win something first.

If they want a woman in the Open it should be Annika, and to bring in Wie is a slap in the face.

Whether it be a male or female golfer, a player can get in the Open IF he/she qualifies as the leading unexempt player in the John Deere classic. So work still has to be done, and clearly not an easy task for Wie, or any other unexempt men player.
Second, amateur can get into The Open by playing qualifying rounds. I'm sure most LPGA player won't play those rounds because it would step on their own schedule.

The only thing I'd like to see is to see LPGA players who actually won being invited to The Open. For example, the best 20 LPGA players can get an exemption, or the lady who wins a tournament the preceding week of the Open. But at least, they've taken a step for women to play in... a baby step, but a step nonetheless...

If you want more info on the qualifying here goes

this whole debate is worthless, not one women pro cares could care less whether women are 'allowed' to play in any mens events, they simply aren't bothered for obvious reasons

except the growing business that is Wei,and good luck to her,but lets keep it in focus, this is simply about one player and her sponsors, its not about women v men

quite frankly I hope she wins the JD event and she does qualifies for The Open and does well, but lets face it,if she finishes second last her sponsors would claim a moral victory because she beat one man

I would be willing to venture a bet the Wie doesn't even make the cut at the JD Classic...now I could be dead wrong, but she has failed to make the cut in every PGA event that she's played in.

And she would claim more money for this position than she would ever make on the LPGA tour for finishing 2nd last.

It's about money, but on more than one scale. The women's Tour has lots of great players, none of which can compete with the men, in my opinion. But all that aside, I think that alot more of them want the money the men are getting.

Wouldn't you?

I don't dispute that,you are quite correct

I am simply saying this is not an arguement that involves any female professionals, except Wie,its a non-issue and totally blown out of proportion

I agree with you entirely, its about one incredibly talented young player and shed loads of money

IF they go thorugh the qualifying stage liek the men then fair enough and good luck to them.

And if I had any description of power on this forum, this would be in tour talk.

I'm totally with ya, just adding to your point.

I would love it if all "golfers" played on the Tour. Male or Female. I still maintain that women would quickly want their Tour back. However, the prize money for 47th for people like Annika and Grace Park might keep a few around. But for those that missed cuts week after week, it might get old quick.

I gotta agree 100%. If any women should be playing in that event its Annika. Wie should atleast win a lpga event first. And you got guys working there @$$'s off and going to q-school and trying to get event to event and she just gets it pretty much handed to her.
