Range Session Aftermath - Help Needed

Well, I headed out to the lrange today and bought 2 large buckets. One I designated to break in my driver with, and the other to hit short approach shots to an 80 yard green.

The driver, I had a terrible slice with. I don't know if this is because my stance, shaft flex or swing. But boy was it ugly. I worked from there to change things and see how straight I could get it. I ended up with a really weird swing and stayed within 5 yard of centre either way. I'll have to get a video up sooner or later so I get some technical tips. This was with the Srixon W-302 by the way. I'll be hitting the Ben Hogan CS3 This weekend.

I need help on the following:

1. What is a good shaft for under $100? I asked my shop and they said $79.99 for the UL440 Shaft itself, Grip, and installation. Would I best be going with something else?

2. Should I try the Aldila Regular Flex Shaft in the Srixon?

3. Can I blame my slice on the wind? It was about a 25-30 MPH wind that was blowing West to East and that's the direction that my slice was going in...It'd be straight til it hit a certain height, then all of a sudden it'd hang an extreme right. I'd like to think this was the wind, but ya never know.

Thanks for any help guys, I'll try to get a swing video up tomorrow.

my ping g5 with a regular flex shaft does hte EXACT same thing.. until i can afford to get a stiffer shaft my remedy has been to tee up with the ball infront of my front foot and take alot off my swing.. works well but taking off of a 105 mph swing speed sucks.. i hate not being able to swing normally

no one should really be suggesting a shaft here as you should be properly fitted for your swing type.. you would more then likely be wasting money.. SS is not the only thing to determine shaft type

what loft is the club? the higher the loft the better as far as slice goes.. less side spin

your swing mechanics may be off as youre making changes with varying results. There can be a number of factors, setup, swing plane, your hands

that being said, i have had balls travel at 90 degrees in the air because of wind, but that was pretty extreme

OK. Here's the basics, write these down somewhere, you will want to refer back in a few months to know how to hit a draw.

SwingPath will be referred to as SP and the Clubface will be referred to as FA for face angle.

SP in to in + FA square = straight
SP in to out + FA square = draw
SP out to in + FA square = fade
SP in to in + FA open = Push
SP in to in + FA closed = Pull
SP in to out + FA closed = Hook
SP out to in + FA open = Big ol slice

I knew I missed a combo... Adam has it correct though. Those would be the massive push and what most refer to as the "duck hook", that nasty pull dead left, probably the worst and most unrecoverable tee shot possible in most cases.

I know once I learned the ballflight laws it made identifying my flaws a lot easier. Once you know the problem, finding the fix is a lot easier too.
