Good Story. Great Remedy.

Here's a good one:

Last year, in an interview with Ben Bates, he touched on the topic of Crotch Rot (I capitalize it because apparently it's a big problem on the Nationwide Tour). Basically, Crotch Rot is an unfortunate condition that occurs when playing conditions are so hot and muggy that the golfer's crotch sweats excessively and becomes irritated. (I know there are a hundred names for this, but I won't name them out of good taste.) Apparently, according to Ben, some players have even been forced to withdraw from tournaments due to extreme chaffing.

Now, as gross as that is, Ben has a remedy! A 20-year veteran, he told me that a couple of swipes on sheer deodorant prevents this from ever happening. He's been doing it for as long as he's been playing and even had a notion to market the idea to a major brand. He was struggling with what to call it, though.

It works. I do it when the Tour visits the midwest in June, July, and August. It is lifesaver in places like Wichita, KS and Springfield, MO.

Aye, i get it all the time in summer, walking 27-36 holes a day 7 days a week does that to you. Babypowder and the underarmor material boxerbriefs save lives.

Oh yeah, I remember that from my serious running days. Deodorant will do the trick and regular Right Guard will knock it our over night. Burns like hell but it works.

Bike shorts or Lycra shorts underneath everything else works great. I used to adventure race and we did everything in bike shorts because they are build to keep the lycra in place and they breath really well. Just put regular shorts on top (you don't wear underwear with bike shorts) and it's all good even in the most humid weather.

Hey, that's a really good idea. I may try that this summer when it gets hot and steamy here. I know the bike shorts work great for summer biking so they ought to work well on the golf course too.

This is a funny post to read after coming home from softball and the bar after a good 13-14 beers. They don’t call it going “commando” for nothing. I was a grunt in the Marine Corps and my first couple of long 12 to 20 Mi humps I had some serious crotch rot going on. I pick up on a tip from the older guys in my unit and they said drop the nut huggers and boxers and just free ball it. So I did and never looked back. Part of the problem is when it gets so humid it gets wet down there and no air can get it in there and all that friction between your pants and underwear skin is what causes the chafing. Another trick I learned is if you get blisters from your shoes use duct tape. If you start to feel a hot spot on your foot just put a big piece of duct tape on it no gauze or nothing underneath. The smooth part of the duct tape will stop the friction from your shoe and will stop the blister. I just started wearing underwear a few years ago.
