Tee Boxes

As I've been looking at some of the courses people have posted links to it seems that the courses in CA I've played seem to be off on the tee marker colorings. It goes as follows:

Red - Women
Yellow/Gold - Senior
White - Mens
Blue- Back
Black - Tournament.

Is this the standard or is it just a central valley thing?

No, thats right. Exactly how it should be. Most courses around here dont have blacks and then the blues or the tips instead.

Every course is free to use it's own markings. Just like the pins are Red, White and Blue for front, middle, back.

Your markings there are pretty much standard and predominantly the color coding used on most courses.

That seems pretty standard, lots of courses will use different labels, but the idea is the same. I've played a couple of courses that name the tees after birds or animals.

the thread from clemsonhacker threw me off I guess. I guess its just the oddballs that stand out when looking at courses.

That's how it goes around here. Most courses don't have blacks around here though. Blues are the max. I go off the whites mostly, once in while blues. I just don't want to be the jacka$$ shooting a 94 off the tips and holding everyone up. There was a group of old farts in front of me and my group of sligthly younger farts the other day. They were playing off the tips for some ungodly reason. They were trudging though the waste areas looking for the tee shots they couldn't hit 180 to clear the junk on 2 holes. Pure ignorance.

that sounds about right.. here in oklahoma red is considered ladies and juniors.. white is for men and seniors.. then blues are back a little bit then theres black at most courses for tournament..

depending on the course and how crowded it is i'll usually play white.. sometimes i play white on the front 9 and blue on the back 9 if the course isn't very busy

If you cant break at least 100 you ought to move up a set. And I would say that to include not being able to break 100 from the whites and moving up to the silvers (seniors) or reds even. Same thing for me today as you were saying- was watching the threesum on the adjacent par 5 today. they all had to be 4 hitting 5 and still out 250. I got to watch and count as they had three groups backed up behind them, including mine.

To quote Penn- "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot ?".

Thats the way it is at my course. Red, gold, white, blue. I play the whites and the blue about evenly. When I go in the evening and the course is not busy I play blues but when I go during a busy time I play white.
