Thread: Reading Greens

I dont get how people use intermediate targets... To me, its just a hole, and that is where your ball is suppost to go. But thats just me.

Im thankful that up here we dont have grained grass, i actually have no clue what kind of grass we have here in BC, but i perfer bentgrass thats cut really tight. Just react to how the putt looks, none of this worrying about the grain or hitting downhill putts extra hard or any of that nonesense Just putt the ball along the break,

Well, concerning grain, it does matter. If the ball, on a perfect surface, would break to your left say....6", you can't tell me on a grain-heavy surface going to the right, that break would be reduced.

I played on bermuda greens yesterday for the first time in a year. These were excellent greens that we very well maintained. Played with two friends from our club.

We had the devil of a time adjusting to them and consistently left putts short.

I putted one off the green when I did not take into account the grain that was growing toward the false front...

Other than that, they broke far, far less than our bentgrass greens which are devlish...

That's why on the whole I think putting on bermuda is easier...all of my best tournament rounds were on bermuda greens.

I wholeheartedly agree that they are easier...once you learn how to read the grain.

That's a big hurt for me, is playing on courses with a lot of break in their seemingly no break putts, then going to a course that has minimal break due to the grass and other things.

Main reason I like to play at least one round before a tournament if it comes to that.
