A Game of Give and Take

Not sure if this applies to anyone else, and it may be caused by my lack of experience with the game; but for any reason, I can't seem to get more than a couple of aspects of my game to be strong in a round. IE: I find that if my iron shots are on, then my woods and driver tend to be off; or vice versa.

I warm up and the range before a round (which seems to help). My routine on the range starts off with a PW or SW, and then I make my way up to my Driver. I ultimately end up mixing it up toward the end and finally ending up with the club that I will use off of the first tee.

I'm not sure if it is something that I need to fix in my game, or if that is just the nature of the cruel but wonderful game of golf... Anybody else have a similar experience or perhaps some advice?

It's not unheard of and I'm sure everyone here has experienced it.

Main thing is when you go to the range, just make sure the good parts are still good, then hammer out the bad.

Aslong as your short game is on then that should really help your score and make it easiar on your putting.

I play very similar. Usually my woods or irons are great, and the other is not so great. Regardless, to score how I would like to score my short game usually needs to be on fire. If my short game and specifically my putting is off, it is usually going to make for a long day. Anymore, short game is usually the only thing I will practice outside of the course, although I do usually get out for a couple 9 hole practice sessions a week on the course.

Anytime I find a happy median with my irons and woods, and my short game is normal or better then I will usually have a round to remember. For most of the last year my irons have been better than my woods, although since getting my new irons my woods have come around and there has been a slight learning curve on the irons. Just recently I have started to get in sync with my irons and have had a few rounds where I played them all well. Hopefully a sign of things to come.

That is by far the most maddening thing about this crazy game. One day I suck off the tee (I mean REALLY suck off the tee) but my iron play and putting are really good. The next time I play I'm hitting dreadful iron shots, but hitting the driver well. Etc, etc., etc.

It drives me crazy.

Thanks a bunch guys.

I haven't hit my driver well in what seems like forever; however, the big stick finally came out of the bag yesterday, and I had some impressive shots (12 fairways hit, longest drive around 275). In my elation with my new-found ability to hit my driver, I seemed to have completely forgotten what a short game is and how to lay one down. Still shot a 90 (which is decent for myself), and went back to the practice green afterwards and worked out my short-game woes.

I'm pretty eratic off the tee .................especially this year with all the wind (hey........it's an excuse, so I'll use it). My only consistent part of my game is the short game. When my driver and irons are working, I'm a "MACHINE".........otherwise, I tend to suck..........LOL. If we could do it all consistently, I guess we'd all be on the PGA Tour, right?

If you work on any two things, it's having a shot off the tee(whatever club it may be) that you are comfortable with, and a solid short game.

lol. And all this time I've been thinking that the grooves on the back of the clubs were for aerodynamics! Thanks Eracer!

Reminds me of that Simpsons where Homer is backing in holes in flanders car, and tells him it is for aerodynamics.

Only a few weeks back i was banging the big stick long and straight and my fairway woods, but this week i have lost it all and it really beats me up, because i was feeling that my game was about to turn a corner, i was on the green in 2 on the par 5, last night i took 9, its a hell of a game.
