Has anyone's handicap gone up this year?

Mine has. Albeit slightly, but it still went up which is the wrong way!!

Very small increase and I currently sit at 16.0, from 15.7. The way I'm playing this year I suspect it will continue to inch it's way up and up. Just can't seem to get it going so far this season.

My handicap graphed over the last 2 years looks exactly like a sine wave or a roller coaster. Goes up to 16 during the winter and down to 12 during the summer.

I got mine down to 8.5 middle of last summer and this year it's shot up to 14. Now it's down to about 10.5. I'm not changing it in my signature until the end of the year since it's been "fluctuating" so much.

Mine has gone down about a stroke but as high as it is right now it is pretty pathetic that it hasn't gone down more than that.

Mine went up after my first 6-8 rounds of the season. I was swinging like a rusty gate and trying to get used to new clubs at the same time.

I played with youngun5 and hit the ball terribly. If it hadn't been for decent chipping and putting I wouldn't have cracked the century mark.

Since then, I've started hitting the ball well and am driving the ball much better. My handicap is starting to come back down to where it shoud be.

Mine is currently at 14.6, down from 20.3 last September before I started my lessons. The downward slope though is in jeopardy as I've failed to break 90 my last three rounds. Luckily those just replaced some 90+ rounds from last September and I've started to come out of my slump. I had an hour lesson last night that helped to really identify why I was having so much trouble lately. I have some stuff to work on but I'm definitely back to being headed in the right direction to achieve my goal of a sub 10 cap by the end of summer!

you must play a lot to get it down to sub 10....thats like a lot of 0.3 and 0.2 cuts....would be very impressive play

Fortunately, mine is still on the decrease. I shot an awesome for me 77 at a 72.3 rating course last night. That one score took my cap from 7.0 to 6.5! That's is my lowest cap ever, too.

Well, before Sept of last year, I had three sub 90 rounds to my credit over the 6+ years I had been playing. Prior to my slump, my four previous rounds were all in the 80s with the last one being a +9, 81, where I played holes 8-18 at +2. My lesson last night showed me that I have the swing to do it, I just need to let go and trust it!

thats some good shooting..how does the handicap system work in the US...

for me I can only go up 0.1 of a stroke in competition and get cut 0.2 of a stroke in competition play....so to get to sub 10 (9.4) I'd need at least 5 rounds of sub 82 with no rounds over 82...

The US system takes your 10 best scores out of your last 20 rounds and then puts those scores into a random number generator (RNM) which does the calculation. I know we've compared the two systems on this board in the past and we discovered that the US system provides caps that are a little lower than what those same scores would dictate in the UK system.

My handicap seems to balloon way up just before the members' tourney each year. Then, drops back down after I take the money and prizes. Gittin' a whole wall full of them plaques and trophies!

I think that the US method is a much better reflection of the standard that you're playing to at the moment than our method...for us I could be off 2 but playing like an 18 and it would take me 160 rounds in competition to reflect how badly I was playing...definately prefer the way you guys do it
