9 holes - 2 hours, 45 minutes

I nearly went out of my mind today. Teed off on a short course today (par 67) at 12:15 with two younger guys. Didn't putt out on 9 until 3 o'clock. Waited for 5 or 10 minutes on nearly every tee box, and didn't see a marshal until I was in the fairway on #8. I made sure to say something to him, which I never really do, but I was pissed. That's a course you should be able to get around in 4 hours when it's slow.

I scraped out a 42 with no 3 putts, but it was really hard to stay focused with the pace that slow. It didn't help that one of the guys I played with talked non-stop about how much he knows about the swing and what a badass he was. When he gave himself a 4 footer for a 10 on the 3rd hole I just tuned him out.

It was such a nice day too... I had really high hopes. Oh well, hopefully Saturday will be better. This slow play sh!t has to stop.

Friend and I did 18 two weeks ago in 2-1/2 hours. This weekend my brother and I did 18 in about 5 hours. Two "fivesomes" in front of us and no rangers.

That's why I don't even bother on most holidays or Sundays. I don't mind it as much when I'm with a group, usually my boss, his son and a guy from here, Twofast. Then we talk and BS while we are waiting and it's not so bad. It's the time of year as well. Give it till the end of this month and the courses won't be so packed. I've been spending a lot more time at the range then just testing it out for 12 holes on a weekday after the leagues are gone. I haven't played a full 18 in almost a month now.

I feel your pain man. I played a short course yesterday afternoon with my dad and there were a bunch of jokers in front of us. They all played from different tees, 5 yard tee shots, then they'd PLAY those shots and take 5-6 strokes to get on the green, and since the greens are are as fast as a basketball court 5 puts to get it in the hole. We gave up after 12 but found two decent guys to play the last two holes with.

I'd say I feel your pain...but then I'd just be repeating myself.

I left after the fourth hole. Just too many people on the cousre I couldn't take it anymore.

The cause of slow play is mainly due to the course. All the courses now are sending groups out every 5-7 minutes where it should be every 10 minutes. Usually when you have a tee time you'll just go out when you see the group in front of you out of your range. When you should be teeing off at your time. This is how courses make money...Send out as many groups in a day as possible. Tee times should be every ten minutes, and they should tee off according to the clock as long as the group is out of range. Pace of play should be alot quicker this way. Unfortunatley for us golfers, most of the courses dont work this way and from a business standpoint you can see why.

It's all about the Money!!

I have noticed alot of people aren't ready when its their turn to hit or putt. People 4 putting is tuff to watch, and it gets worse when they go through the Tiger routine between putts.

That's my personal bugbear too - I'm always laid back on the course and very little phases me, but if it's your 3rd or 4th putt, or for an 8 or 9, then why not just get up there and hit it?

The other one that I can't stand being behind is guys (and it is ALWAYS guys) playing from the back tees that can't reach the fairway. Me and Greydawg played behind some the other week and it was unbearable watching them all the way back, doing their pre-shot routine, setting up, and then firing their drives less than 200yds into the rough about 20yds behind the start of the fairway, or failing to reach long par 3s with their drivers out. What made it worse in this instance is that we waved them through, thanks to the people we got paired with making the 2h 45 for 9 holes look like speed golf, and it actually took all of them 2 shots to pass me and Greydawg standing alongside our own balls hit off the whites.

O man, try playing jr tournaments! they are just brutal for the most part, especially when the girls division and 11-13 div tee off first.... Its brutal because they have all the bigger kids in the last groups going for greens in 2 and 1 and they have to wait for all the younger groups, the only times we play a faster round is when the older groups are off first.

Ive played 4 rounds in the 6 to 6 1/2 hour range this year, only 3 tourneys in under 4 1/2, usually all around 5 to 5 1/2.

Doesn't the AJGA have some elaborate system now to keep the pace of play up? Can someone here explain how it works?
