Thread: One of those in the zone nights

  1. One of those in the zone nights

League tonight, played 9 holes and made 5 birdies - none over 4 feet... (I actually missed a 6 footer). I usually make my fair share but 5 in 9 holes is a little out of the ordinary. At most I've made 4 over 18. The shitty thing was every single one of them was cut. ZERO skins. This is what happens when you get a little bit of rain and no wind.

I have a tournament on Saturday and I'll probably shoot 80 now... I've officially jinxed myself.

Please tell me about your "in the zone" rounds. How do we keep it going?

I never really notice until after the round that I got into "the zone." It sounds overly simple, but I usually don't even know what score I have through the round, since I try and focus on the shot in front of me. I know that if I continue to hit the ball well, the score will be good as a result, when I start thinking about the score that I am posting, I tend to get a bit ahead of myself and lose focus on what I am doing at that moment and will put a bad swing on the ball.

i wish i could get scores out of my head, im working hard on that now. I can usually stop thinking about everything when i go through my routine but i usually know my score in the back of my mind.

It took me a while to be able to keep the score out of my mind, I read a lot of books that helped me to focus on the process rather than the result. Tiger's book "How I Play Golf" was the best one for me, it made me appreciate how his mind works during a round, he focuses on the process more than the results. He knows that a good swing or series of good swings will result in a decent score for that hole. Doing this as often as possible during a round will result in a good score for the round. He knows that there will be the occassional bad swing in there, but if you notice that when he does hit a bad shot, he will rehearse the swing and try and figure out what went wrong on that swing so that he doesn't do it again. I also noticed that focusing only on the shot at hand helps me to make in round adjustments if the swing gets a little flawed.

Super play....I've never made more than three birdies on a side...5 total in an entire round...too bad you couldn't have played another nine to see what your score would have been.

I so seldom get in The Zone - I couldn't tell you what it feels like...:laugh:

I think the only time I ever got anything like 'in the zone' was a few weeks ago in a round with Greydawg, when all my distances were right, my swings felt good, my shot selection was spot on, and just everything seemed to click.

And then, with 3 holes to go, we got caught inbetween two groups from a charity event that had come back out to play some more holes, eventually shooting past us to form a 7-some on the last hole. Of the 7 players I'd guess only two ever played golf regularly, with one guy who had no clubs and was playing in cut-off denims and sandals.

The last three holes were a disaster, comparitively speaking, and ended up carding 1 over my best ever score. When I looked back at the scorecard afterwards I was on schedule to beat my best ever score by 6 or 7 shots until we hit those guys, and break 90 for the first time ever - and probably by 5 or 6 shots!

And Greydawg wondered why I was so miserable in the bar afterwards!!!
"My baby got the Yips, my baby got the Yips
She goes out in 32, but comes home in 54
Well I told her to see the Club Pro, But she said 'n-n-n-n-n-no'
Have you tried the overlap grips? Yeah - but still she got the Yips..."

  9. About 2 weeks ago I was playing with 2 buddies and i started out double, double. I said to myself that I would forget those and really try and focus the rest of the round. I had 9 pars and 1 birdie over the next 10 holes and never realized it until my buddy said- Do you know that since the second hole you are 1 under ? I went 8 over on the last 6 holes, lol. I think I was in the zone until my buddy broke the spell.

Good shootin' Tex...1 birdie in 9 is my claim too fame. I'm a work in progress.
When asked how to put back spin on a i7,
Trevino said how far do you hit it?
The guy said 120yds and Trevino said why do you want to back it up?

  11. Heavy rain yesterday softened things up nicely. I'm hoping for more rain today. What a huge difference

Throwing darts and rolling the rock are the bomb. I've been there only a handful of times, but it's ended up well.

Then, you get away from it, and reality comes crashing down.

The knowing that you can get there is what drives you even moreso afterwards.

    Good shooting, C.

There was no "rolling of the rock" The 5 birdies totalled about 15 feet.

If I were rolling the rock I would have made the 6 footer and 2 10 footers and shot a 31

  14. Sounds like you need to buy my "Heavy Putter" which all the guys in here said would help but didn't. Then Sling sells his. JK, nice round!! I've been in the "zone" for a few holes but can't keep it going. I think that was 10 years ago?

with that driver and wedge combo, you'll be making mincemeat of the short par 4's like the ones on my 6000 yard track.
