Question about the Tour Tempo "Y" & "L" drills

For anyone who has read "Tour Tempo" I have a quick question for you regarding the "Y" and "L" drills and how they translate to the actual course.

Well, I guess the question is....how do they translate to the course?? Is that how I am supposed to approach my full swing? A takeway, then a wrist set before starting the follow through? In the book it says that you do not need to make a conscious effort to make a wrist set because Tour Tempo (i.e the 3:1 ratio) takes care of that for you. So what's the point of these drills then?

I've used the audio tracks to practice a bit with the drills and I certainly understand and appreciate the 3:1 tempo ratio, but what exactly are the drills doing for me?

Thanks.

It's been a little while since I read the book portion, although if I remember correctly the Y and L drills where more a matter of use of proper swing fundamentals and covered even prior to using the tempo CD or getting into the core topic of the book. So I don't really remember it directly being related to be a tempo, and like they said if you use proper fundamentals and proper tempo it would likely take care of itself.

Just my take on it, but I just thought it was kind of like "book filler", and just one of many translations for proper swing fundamentals, as it would have been a pretty short book just to cover the tempo basics on using the tape.

Thanks PA. So you read the book? Did you put the Tour Tempo theory to use? did it work/not work for you?

I did and had extremely fast and poor tempo. It really seemed to help, although I think when I hurt my back last year it did more for slowing down my swing and fixing my tempo. I realized that if I swing like what appears to me that of an 80 year old at the age of 42, I hit the ball solid and further on the average. Took me a couple years of watching people a little older, and ladies playing out of the fairway as opposed to the woods, to really sync in. I am pretty comfortable with my tempo right now and was even planning on pulling out the mp3 player again and see where I stand. Although my main goal was to slow down and ease up, which it gave me a way to do so and still remain consistent. I also have a Swing speed radar with tempo that while it does not assure proper tempo, it helps with maintain the tempo speed.
