Question Who here has played in a state or USGA event?

The GSGA (Georgia State Golf Association) will be having the Mens Senior Amateur Championship August 22, 23, & 24 in Richmond Hill, GA, just north of Savannah.

Obviously, I have no chance of winning. Last years winner shot -5 for the 3 days.

But I'm thinking of entering, just for the hell of it. I might not even get accepted as the field is limited to the lowest handicap 150 entries. If I did get in, I probably wouldn't make the low 70 cut after 2 days, unless I can putt lights out.

What do you think?

$220 for the 3 rounds. Plus your food, lodging, etc. Practice rounds are available for $25 each.

If you are not accepted into the tournament, entrance fee will be returned.

When I lived in Georgia the dates for the state am always conflicted with other tournaments or vacations. If I remember right you only needed to shoot a 76 or so to qualify.

You should definitely do it.

Only a 76, Doc, you can do it!

I could shoot a 76.......................in a 15 hole match.

I would go for it if they let you, Doc. Sounds like a good deal if all the food, lodging, and 3 rounds of golf are included. Heck, a $25 practice round is a good deal.

If I had anywhere near enough game to qualify I would be all over it. For only $220 it is worth just the experience of doing it.

Ive played in both the North Carolina Amateur and the US Amateur. The events for both were very affordable and alot of fun. If you have a chance to do it then just go for it and dont worry about your skill level, just have fun!!

Well, I didn't get in the Senior Amateur: I was 19th alternate.

I just checked the website as the tourney started this morning, and they took up to the 13th alternate. Close, but no cigar. I would have been pissed if they had called me at the last minute and said you're in, because there is no way I could have gotten there on such short notice.

Sorry Doc, but keep at it. These multi-day big tournaments are the best thing in the world.

The VTGA is great about events...

The VTGA is great about events... and I'm sure the GA state assoc is as well. There might be some 1 day tourneys that you can prob get into for 50 bucks. Check their website.

I entered the Georgia Mens Public Links right after I found out I was 19th Alternate in the Mens Senior. Last day to apply is today. List should be on the website tomorrow. It is a 2 day on Saturday & Sunday in Sept at The Trophy Club outside of Athens.

Allen Doyle won it in 1989.

I just found out, that where I play a 9 hole course sometimes, has a tourny every thanksgiving.

The grand prize used to be a turkey, but since the clubhouse freezer broke 2 years ago, now you just get a coupon for one, to use at the Pigly Wiggly.

I'm in..I should be under the 110 mark by then.
