Benign weather forecast for Carnoustie

Looks like it is going to be relatively benign conditions over the next week at Carnoustie. Some light rain (maybe) but little by the way of wind.

7 day forecast at Carnoustie
Metcheck.com - Global Weather Forecasts - [Updated on 17 July 2007 at 9:00] - Weather Feeds - Live Data - Long Range Weather Forecasts

I would love to have seen a 20mph breeze just to make things interesting.

With the course playing easier, I predict the boys will tear it up and I forsee a winning score of -16. I also predict a high ball hitter will do well.

Comes down to keeping out of trouble and putting.

Holes 16-18 look as hard as ever, so I hope it goes down to the wire.

I get a sneaky feeling that you will be right. He was hitting the ball so well at Loch L. That Square thingy may get him the jug!

I'm having Phil, JD, Casey, Garcia (with his belly putter) & maybe Monty. £5 e/w on each.

I think Phil may hit the ball to high to win but he'll be near the top, how many places does an each way bet cover?

High + no wind + soft conditions = Winning combo (yes, even on a links)

High + gale + rock hard ground = disaster.

This will not be a typical Open and completely different from last year's Car Park gig. There won't be many 300 yd. 2 iron stingers! I can predict plenty of 65s over the week. Woods will have a different game plan this week.

My home course is a true links, similar in many ways to 'Noustie. There has been so much rain so far this summer, there are still pitch marks on the greens (unheard of in mid July). The only protection is a bit of wind and lush rough. Get a calm day where you can shoot for the pins and watch out. They'll be spinning the bayjaysus out of it, even from the rough. The "Smash and Grab" boys will have a field day.

Look at the Dunhill scores over the past few years. "Carnasty" has had it's manhood removed since the last Open. I don't think it will be a pushover, but I do see the boys going low.

Look at the final qualifying scores at the local courses to give you an idea.

Depends on which company you bet with but if you look around you will find one that does top 5 and ties.

Agree with IG they will be going low this year. The cut may be even under par???

If I didn't see the link to the weather forecast, I'd think IG is trying bit of a mis-information campaign, getting us to change our picks.

They ran that story in our morning paper....it appears they were playing in a gale.

I truly WISH we'd have one round like that, just to see what the scores would be like.

That's no gale Sir, that's proper links golf!

That's what us Dudes over here have to contend with week in / week out!

Screaming a 4 iron 120 yards and coming up short? Put that in yer pipe and smoke it Tiger! Ha!

Now this could get interesting, especially on Saturday.

Bit of wind and rain never hurt anyone.

Should be fun to watch but I wouldn't want to play in that. Those temps are close to what our winter is.
