Golf carts...then and now

The thread about buying a golf cart stirred some old memories, so I did some searching and scanning.

In another life, I was a competitive shooter for the Florida National Guard. In 1965, two other rifle team members and myself bought a used (well used) cart and trailered it to Camp Perry, Ohio for the National Matches. I believe we were among the first to use a cart as transportation between the ranges at Perry. The first picture appeared in the local newspaper at that time.

The second picture was made a couple of months ago and shows the same threesome with a different choice of weapons. I will tell you truthfully; we all shot better with the original "irons".

If anyone cares, I am the good looking guy on the extreme left of both pictures. My current golfing buddy is in the center; and our old First Sergeant is behind the wheel.

Did that make y'all Mechanized Infantry?

Love the campaign hats. I was in 122d Combat Engineer Battalion, SC Army National Guard in the 70s. We didn't have campaign hats. Only those ***** drill sergeants wore them (and still do).

Doc,
The campaign hats were only authorized for shooters in those days; and were individually purchased, as were the shooting jackets. Cushman carts were also absent from the Mech Inf inventory.
