Have to Laugh

Have any of you guys heard some talking in the Golfwrx shaft forums on their club speed? Ridiculous! "I swing at 120-130 but get 140 when I really go after it", "I swing at 110-120 etc. etc." One guy in there sarcastically said his was "150-160 but get 170 when I really go after it" and the others thought he was serious!! I can't stand these "longest pecker contests" some golfers try.

There is an extremely high percentage of idiots and bullsh!ters over on WRX. I go there once in a while but would never seriously consider any piece of advice or believe anything I read there.

Two of the best devices I've ever bought were my GPS and swing speed radar. I'm not a big "golf gadget guy" but those two items usually make "biggest pecker" contests a short one (the contests! Get your minds out of the gutter ). When I break those out and put real measured numbers to a shot/swing I usually don't have to say much.

Most commonly heard words... "That thing can't be right!"

I always want to ask those guys at GolfWRX if they've actually measured those numbers and gotten them consistently, but I know I'd be called an idiot for questioning them so I keep my mouth shut and just laugh.

Yeah, I don't understand all the fuse about Swing speed or how far you can hit a PW. The guys I play with all the time want to know what I hit on a par 3 or they will be like ohh I used a 9 iron when I used a 7 iron. I dont really care. I hit what I have to and get the job done most of the time.

I also get more loft out of my irons than most of them.

"Oh, so you hit a 9 iron to the green while I had to hit a 7? That's okay, you're still one down."

I don't hit my irons long either and don't care. I don't have to carry 10 wedges to play the short shots.

When you get out hit off the tee by your sister, then you'll start caring about SS and ball speed.... thats what happened to me.

Well, distance matters.

That's true, no question.

However, control matters so much more than distance. I really took to heart, "What percent do you swing?" I figured I was swinging around 90, backed it up to 80 and changed clubs accordingly, and have become more accurate because of it.

What's a large reason I could do this? I've got decent distance to begin with. Some others don't.

Distance does matter but control is KING....

I remember going out to Shoal Creek (ranked #48 in the U.S.) last summer, playing with my nephew and his buddy. We played the tees closest to the Championship tees (PGA Championship in 1984 and 1990) at about 6900 yards. Both of them are strapping 30 year olds...and of course they can hit it a ton....pushing it around 300 plus or minus a bit.

I am back there around 265 (I was having a good day!). I hit about 9-10 fairways and was in light rough 2-3 other times....a really good day in Total Driving.

They - in contrast are all over the place....in the woods hunting for balls like rabbits.

I shot a smooth 81 and they finished around 90.

They both mumbled something after the round about "you sure did a good job of keeping it in the fairway....."

I smirked all the way to the clubhouse bar.

What's distance without control?

It's like a woman without any private parts. Might look pretty until you get to business.

Anywho, a note to be made, and a question:

Who here has the humility, with an open fairway, to hit the 3-wood or an iron off of the tee? Or better, off every tee (excluding 3s, of coruse).
