Boo Weekley

Is he for real? That press conference was crazy.

I've heard it before. I think the guy just wants to be left alone for the most part.

I personally am starting to really like him. He's a heck of a ballstriker and I love seeing him work the ball into the hole location. I think he's a little relief from all these uptight MFer's out there. Can you picture Boo having a fan ejected? He'd probably come up with something a whole lot wittier and have the whole gallery laughing their a$$es off.

Tell me, how many children of any PGA pro's have you seen or actually heard from? He was out there practicing putts with his son right there. Even had him "Tell the lady who you think is going to win the tournament". He's a good guy in my book and a great player.

I think he's playing the "good ol' boy" angle to the hilt. Just like Larry The "git 'r done" Cable guy. Smart guy - bumpkin image.

He knows exactly what to say to feed the media.

But none of that matters. He's got game.

I'm not saying anything bad about him personally, I'm just having trouble believing that anyone could get to where he is in the game and not know anything about the Ryder Cup except Justin Leonard's putt. He literally lives golf and being that clueless defies logic.

I was told that the first Open he played he was paired with Ben Curtis for the first round, then as they were getting ready to hit the first shot he was heard asking Ben "So have you played over here before either?".

I heard him say in an interview at the Open that he couldn't read. I really hope he was joking.

I would hesitate to say that it is an act, he does what he does and he is happy with that, look at Bill Rogers, retired from the game very early and pursued other interests and there have been plenty who get in the game and get out before it frazzles the burning desire and the shining stars.(This was in response to his quote about playing 10 years to accumulate enough money to go fishing and hunting and spend all his time with his family)

What i do not appreciate is the baiting by the press, lining him up for questions to make him look like an idiot, just leave the guy alone and let him do his job as he is, hell knows i would like his bank balance and an ounce of his talent.

He has a genuine love for the game but not for the showbusiness side of it, which is refreshing and has a certain innocence about it, i just hope whoever represents him does not pray on his shortcomings as a human being.

Guys:

I've lived down here a long time (not my whole life but the vast majority of it)....I've met people like Weekley repeatedly.

Uneducated, unsophisticated and uninformed....while at the same time being the most humble, honest and genuine.

Weekly is a deep south redneck. More redneck than John Daly....

In the current issue of Golf Digest I read an in depth interview with Stuart Appleby. He compared and contrasted the US with Australia repeatedly. His basic theme was that American players have been pampered and coached and coached since early ages....while the Australians learned to gut it out themselves....

I think Weekley is such a player. Came from a modest background (at best) and is likely self-taught.

If anything, he's entertaining.

And its really going to get interesting if he starts to win and is interviewed by the media frequently. It could get to a barrel of laughs.

Kind of refreshing really....

This guy has just surpassed alot of golfers in my book (even JD). I think he honestly is one of the great personalities in the game. I couldn't get enough when they asked him about the camo hat and he responded "They're lot of birdies out there. Ima hunt em down!"

Priceless

Wether it is an act, or genuine, I also think its a bit of fresh air and entertaining as heck.

If it is an act it will come out sooner or later..I hope it is not.

I don't buy it - not for a minute. I've lived in Florida for 20 years, and lived in fairly rural parts. I've met people like him, people you underestimate - most often to your detriment. He has a quick wit ("I don't read", "FedEx Cup - what's that?"). I'm not saying that he's a yacht club blueblood masquerading as a redneck. He is a redneck. But he's WAY smarter and more "in touch" than we are being led to believe. I like it. He's a character, and is having fun with the media a$$holes who can't seem to figure out how fluster the guy.

I'm fairly sure its not an act but I'd guess he is very intelligent but only applies this to the things he really cares about Golf being the main one.
