The interview with Stuart Appleby in GD was very interesting. He was asked about Phil and Tiger and his answers were similar to those I have heard otherwhere....

Phil plays to the media better than anyone in a cunning, calculated albeit insincere way.....not well liked by fellow players.

Tiger allthewhile dominating the Tour and his peers, is more liked and respected (as a person) by them. One of the comments made by Appleby was, "What if Tiger was a jerk?"....

I remember making that same observation here about a year ago - and got pretty well slammed for it. I've always thought that Smilin' Phil was like Don Johnson's character in Tin Cup - a media darling who hates old people, little kids, and puppies.

As was pointed out to me then, I don't know the man, so I really don't have the right to judge him. Interesting to hear that my opinion is validated by someone on tour.

A guy I play golf with every weekend is a top notch divorce attorney and a genuine friend. Steve Lowery is a journeyman PGA Tour pro from here who has been on the Tour for about 20 years. He's 46 now and his career is winding down until he turns 50.

My buddy knows Steve pretty well, handling his divorce from a few years back. He said that the typical PGA Tour player think Phil is a 'face man' who plays and panders to the press and galleries, while on a personal level is very selfish. He grew up knowing he had good looks and exploits this vanity for all its worth into as many endorsements as he can get....pretty much the same opinion that Appleby had of him.
