Your Opinion-Ballspeed BS

I put in a couple responses on another forum but don't want to get into some flame war with the guy. The original poster was asking about "breaking plywood" like seen in the "Powerhitter" commercial.

One poster, who is an apparent longdrive guy, claims he drives a ball through 1/2 inch thick plywood. I say BS. No friggen way. Possibly 1/8 inch but the golf ball would split apart before going through 1/2 inch plywood, no matter how fast it was going. What are your opinions... especially those of you who know how thick and hard a piece of 1/2 inch is?

I don't believe it because I don't think I could put a 28 ounce Estwing through a 1/2 inch piece, never mind a golf ball.

Fast forward to about 6:50ish.

That's Pavlet. He's a LD guy. But it's easily possible. That's 1/2" there, easy.

I've seen it done with 1/2" many, many times.

Depends on the plywood. I can put my Estwing 24 through some pieces of half inch. I don't think my hammer head speed is 140.

This reminds me of a story. One time, I was at a co-workers house, and he gave me some chocolate that he didn't want. He was diabetic and said he got it as a gift, but shouldn't eat it. Anyway, it was kind of like a hard fudge, and I didn't want it, but I took it to be nice. I was riding home shotgun with a friend, and he thought the best thing was to throw it at a road sign. So I did, out the side of his turbo coupe going about 65 mph. Wouldn't you know it, that piece of chocolate went straight through that fiberglass sign!

Let's get a swingvid of someone trying this. I'm swinging at 109, and there's no way I would even attempt it. 1/4", no problem, but not 1/2".

MDF, maybe....

OSB, MDF, Plywood, Composite crap... I dont know what the generic term, "plywood", means anymore. How many layers are you talking? 5, 7?

Ask that guy if he can hit a ball through some HardyBoard, then Ill be impressed

What kind of plywood. That's the kicker. Cheap plywood is not tough. But using the good stuff it wouldn't happen. I'd love to see a vid of some shottalker hitting a ball at plywood and it coming back and conking him on the head. We could sell that to "world's funniest videos"!!

In Karate my teacher had pics of his son (when he was 10 years old) going through 10 one inch thick pine boards with his bare hand. This is not the Tae Kwon Do 1/8" plywood stuff. ONE INCH THICK pine boards. BUT, they were hand picked (no knots) and dried out. That makes them more brittle but it still boggles me to see this tiny THIN arm bending like a golf shaft as he goes through all those boards. I had a photocopy of it but it's disappeared. Speed + weight + small area = deep penetration.

I've seen where a tornado went through. Piece of straw driven right through a tree trunk. How fast are those winds moving?

I bet you could smash through 1/2" plywood if you were using...

THE HAMMER

Just shout "SMASH!!!" as you hit the ball and it'll have the desired effect.

It's made of Zolex, don't you know, and has a triplekick smartshaft...

I've yet to find one that is large enough.

This is the same reason I think I can break the plywood.

Thats probably because the piece of chocolate would have been doing about 100mph as it hit the sign.
