The Life of a Driver

I know Im not the only one that has attempted to solve a wayward tee shot with a new club instead of a new swing. Us golfers have an interesting theory of believing that there is always something wrong with a club, not hte swing. Maybe we just like buying new &^$#. That being said, follow me here. . .

Im on about my 10th driver over the years. For any of you that read my other post, I may being looking for number 11 instead of a new shaft. Looking back at my historic changing of the guard, I do actually notice something that at least to me has been interesting. Why, why do you always knock the snot out of new drivers? Why do they always go straight? And why, why do they crap out in 6 months? I sure hear a lot of other folks talk about how they "used" to smoke the ole big dog. They "use" to knock it a mile. That dog use to hunt. Inevitably, our old trusty drivers that we swore we would never replace, are now on ebay with a new toy in the bag?

Is there actually some truth to a driver just running out of shots? Do yall think a driver actually just goes bad? If so, what is the lifespan? Im curious to hear your theories.

My theory is that golfers are always seeking that competitive edge. And, the driver is easily the most marketed club in the bag.

I'm just a guilty as the next guy, but I've maintained for years that if they made a retro Big Bertha Warbird with a VFT face and neutral bias, I'd be first in line to buy one. My Warbird is the best driver I have ever hit, bar none.

It now sits in my brothers bag.

My other theory on this is that we are all idiots. Please see above for explaination.

It's simply one of the great mysteries of golf. The perfect driver becomes a demonic, evil (did I say demonic) evil force, designed to remove your credit card from your wallet every year (at best).

Personally, I think it's like socks. You know how you can put a pair of socks in the washer, and only one comes out? My theory is that the sock manufacturers put a special enzyme in one of the pair - an enzyme that is programmed to activate after 20 washings. On the 21st washing, the enzyme kicks in, and the sock simply vanishes; nothing more than liquified thread washing down the drain.

Drivers have some similar built-in self-destruct mechanism. Don't know what it is, but I've been buying a lot of drivers, so that I can at least come up with a statistical analysis of MTBF.

Hey, at least I'm doing my part...

There is no doubt in my mind that this is true. These dang drivers and shafts are only made to hit good for a short time so you buy another one. Sometimes only a couple weeks! When your swing is as grooved as mine is it couldn't be anything else. Some people in here just haven't realized this phenomena yet...
