how fast should u improve

i am just wondering everyones view on how fast people should improve. this is my third season and just seeing where i should be at but saying that i swapped from lefty to righty and been playing righty for seven months now and on my course i average between 12 and 18 over pretty much all the time is that good bad or just plain ugly?
how long should i be lookin before i get into single figures
cheers

If I had to guess, I would say out of ten random players, 8 of them would shoot bogey golf or worse (90+). And one would shoot 85 or better, one would shoot 115+.

If you're shooting one over par on every hole after 3 years, i would say that's very solid. If you're now comfortable with playing right handed, it might be a good time to take a few lessons. See if you can't tweak a few things here and there to make you bring down your scores some.

But, don't get discouraged. You're definitely in the majority in terms of scoring. Some people play 40 years and never break 90.

I'd say you're doing pretty good! My neighbor has been playing 4 years and he's very good. Shoots high 30's or low 40's for 9. I've played for almost 40 years (R35 must have been refering to me ) and I'm still a 16 handicap (or worse) and it isn't because I haven't tried, haven't taken lessons or haven't spent a fortune. Just not my game I guess although I'm not quitting. Too much satisfaction when I do something right.

You are about where I am, and we've been playing nearly the same length of time. I'm between 85 and 90 generally, but looking to change that in the near future (aren't we all?). Especially considering you somewhat recently switched to righty, you're doing great. Don't cut yourself down. Cut WBL down instead =)

I started playing intermittently 5 years ago. I began playing regularly about 2 years ago. When I started, my scores were usually in the 130s. I broke 100 for the first time last summer. Now, I will always be right at 100 (sometimes a couple under...sometimes a couple over).

Your progress, at your age, will probably be considerably different than mine, though. I was 65 when I started playing.

Yeah Jeff's got it. You cannot depend on one persons progression in comparison to your own, the only way to gauge your progression is whether your doing all you can possibly do to improve. If you are, don't get down at all because theres nothing else you can do(obviously). But, if you are slackin, not using your practice time efficiantly, aka rapid fire driving range habits, then its your fault you dont improve quicker get what im sayin... everyone can get great, just depends how much you want it

I started playing seriously last year after just going out and hacking around once a month and I am in the mid-80's which is good and I can definitely tell I am improving. I have had some kinda make shift lessons with the schools golf coach but all his suggestions were kinda radical so I have just kinda grooved my own swing.

Same story here paddy. I started last year, played 6 outta 7 days of the week and im now a 4.4 hcp... hard work pays off. BTW anyone can be a highschool golf coach, they dont necessarily know anything about golf let alone the swing, just usually a pathetic excuse to say you have a coach really.
