Golf Cart Stories?

With more and more of getting lazy (especially in the dog days of summer), we're all resorting to riding the little buggers around. Don't even deny it. We're all putt-putting to our putt. So I'm just sort of wondering, what sort of crazy stories everyone else has. I'll even go first.

About this time last year, I was down at Sugar Bay, about halfway between Cincinnati and Louisville, just off the Kentucky Speedway. It's about 40 miles from civilization, and it's a real goat ranch. But on Wednesdays it's only $25 for all you can golf with a cart, and all of my buddies are incredibly cheap, so we end up burning tons of gas getting there...

So there's four of us. I'm in one cart with this guy, and we're sharing a few warm beers, and the other two guys have a bottle of vodka. Well, they pound it all down within three holes, and they're out in the ozone for the rest of the day. Come #10, which is a 350 yard par 4 with OB on the left and a steep hill on the right. The target area is 30 yards wide, at most. Well, the other two guys both slice the hell out of their balls, on down the hill and onto the 12th fairway. They get up there, and motor their way on down the hill. Even though the signs clearly say "No Carts". We all know what happened next.

All of this was within a hundred yards of the clubhouse. So, here's the kicker - me and the fourth guy hole out, and our cart is down by the green - well, one of the guys walks 250 yards to our cart, jacks it, and then drives back to the clubhouse.

To this day, the lady working that day hates our guts out - the very next time we went, she was like "Now there's not going to be any horseplay now is there? Otherwise y'all will be walking..."

Then one of the carts dies of its own accord on the first fairway. I was like "They are never going to believe this..."

End result - One of the guys jumped out of the cart about a split second before it rolled over. The other landed on his back, and he complained about it at work all week. An Odyssey 2-ball was snapped, and his putter was about 6 inches long for the rest of the day. And the cart died because all the gas leaked out.

(Does anyone live either in Cincinnati or Louisville? If so we should tee it up sometime.)

WELLLL... since you asked, its not on my account but while i was workin an outing at my home course. We have all the carts in but one of them. And we just cannot figure out what the hell happened because no one sayd nething and it was a shot gun outing and because 2+2 isnt 3 all of the carts should be in or someone should have sayd one died or something right? Wrong, me and the assistant pro go out onto the number two green where some bugger was propping the cart up from falling inside the right bunker... Hes some big red scottish man, getting even redder by each of us laughing, but, the funny thing is that there were two bags on it, the guy he was riding with DESERTED him as well as the other twosome and didnt tell a soul needless to say it was one of the funniest things id ever seen, EVER on a course

Also - before I forget - more recently, #18 at Fox Run. I put my drive smack down the middle, and my buddy is way off to the right, down in the valley and next to a creek. I tell him his ball's probably in the creek, but he goes and looks for it anyway. So, we're both down there, we see it, and he plays it. All fine so far. Then I get in the driver's seat.

In my infinite wisdom, I attempt to drive the cart across a creek bed and up the hill. I'd just forgotten it rained the night before.

Took some struggling and wrangling, but eventually I came up with the idea of getting the bags out of the back, putting hazard stakes under the wheels and pushing really hard. By some miracle of God, it worked. Although our cart was covered in mud next to the immaculate carts of the parking lot...

Byron (neighbor) and I were playing Edgewood Golf Course this year (he was driving) and he got "frisky". He came barreling into the next tee box (no one was around), slammed on the brakes and cranked the wheel hard spinning a perfect donut and pointing it in the right direction. It was quite a manuever. Then there was an elevated tee box and he drove it up on top (not on the tee off area, the long grass). I could've killed him. One downhill path he really got it going and was going to do his "donut" thing again and had it up on two wheels! We darn near rolled over. I gave him my "that's enough now son" look and he behaved the rest of the day.

Another time I was in an outing on a crappy course with run down, beat up carts with bald tires. A huge thunderstorm came rolling in and we all quickly got off the course. It dumped about an inch of rain in less then a half hour and then the sun came out and we went back out. We were alongside another cart going down a hill back to the hole we were playing when they slowly started spinning like a tilt-a-whirl staying right with us. Their eyes were bugging out like headlights and couldn't do a thing about it. Spun like that all the way down the hill. My partner and I were laughing so hard we had to stop our cart.

My home course just got 50 new carts in June. Someone turned one upside down on the course the second day after they were delivered. It was not the first time one has rolled; but it was the first time a new one went over.

We have some undulating ground on this course that can add a whole new meaning to "hazard".
