Whats your scoring zone?

What yardage would you say is your scoring zone? In other words, how close to the green do you have to be to comfortably and consistently get on the green relatively close to the pin?

For me, its always been the 150yrd marker with a 6i. I seem to approach better with that combo than even 100 yard with a wedge.

Pretty much any wedge shot.

But the money shot is an 8i from 135

I like 100 yards even with my Cleveland 54 or 115 with my Vokey 48...

I think it is Titleist that has an advertising

remark that says, "Every club is a scoring club." Like yourself, everyone might have a club or zone that they feel comfortable with which could be called their scoring zone or scoring club. I kind of like the Titleist phrase because every club is capable of doing good things for your score (the negative is true, of course). I have seen golfers take the "favorite club" thing too far. They get to the point that they lack confidence in most of their clubs, and that cannot be a good thing.

Its a head game, but I honestly do not put any one club above the others. I like to think that when I visualize a shot I am not in any way constrained to figure out how to make the shot only with a particular club. As I have said before, I really wish I could carry more clubs, not fewer. Personally, my confidence in any one club would be diminished if I placed the burden on that club of making more shots than it was suppose to be making.

Sincerely, Cypressperch

Good point Cypressperch.

However, for newbies like myself, until we reach a point where "Every club is a scoring club", one is forced to play within thier ability.

On some short Par4s, I have even tee'd off with a shorter club just so that I could get into "my scoring zone", instead of getting closer and having to hit a club that I can't control properly.

In Tournament? 230 with a 3 iron or 4 iron, depending on condition. Why? Not many people can stick it close from that distance, I'm lucky that I've never had a problem with long irons.

Normally? Whatever, I make the occasional incredible chip shot.

I really like tap-in distance.

Actually, I'm a little like Jeff4i. Not necessarily because I hit the shot well often, but I'm not bad with my long irons and I love to hit a shot onto the green from about 200.

Just like the NFL red zone?

That would be 150 with an easy 8 iron. Next on fringe with 52* Vokey set way back chipping low spinner. More accurate than putt.

8 inches with my putter is money!!

I'd say just behind the 100 marker with my GW. I'm making no worse than bogey from there.

I feel comfortable hitting any club into the green. It really depends on the pin location as to what club I would prefer to hit into the green. If the flag is in the back of the green, I want a slightly longer club so that the ball won't spin as much. Front pins, I like to have a shorter club and take it a little past the hole and have it back up a bit.
