Anyone use the "Natural Golf Swing" (ala Moe Norman)?

I was recently reading about Moe Norman, considered to be one of the best ball strikers ever...yet nobody really knows about him.

Apparently even Hogan was quoted as saying: "Moe is the only player that I'd cross the street to go see him hit balls".

Google him up and you'll see his wierd swing. But its supposed to be very effective. Its a one plane swing that is very similar to the Iron Byron machine.

While Moe passed away in 1997, his style is still practiced by some. Often referred to as Natural Golf Swing.

Anyone here play using that technique?

Nope, But don't you have to change lie of clubs (flatter???) to truly be a NATURAL golfer?

yeah, apparently you do. Also the grip is supposedly different. I am not about to change my swing, re-do my gear etc. But would be interesting to know how they do it. Maybe try out a club thats already geared to that swing.

I am surprised that if its that effect why they don't have more people learning it. i can understand tour players not wanting to learn 20 years of instruction and habits. But i'd think that many newer gen kids would be learning that swing if its so simple and effective.

Well, I knew I swung on a single plane but my swing looks remarkably like this. Didn't even know I was a "natural"!!

(But I still stink)..

My CPGA pro spent a lot of time with Moe in Ontario.

Their swings look a lot alike.

My 70 year-old uncle plays to a 12 handicap using Moe's method. Doesn't hit far, but sure hits it straight.

Thats what I hear: that people using that method don't get the same distance, but get amazing accuracy and consistent.

We've talked a LOT about Moe Norman here on ST. He is certainly not an unknown to our membership. And with so many Canucks here, you can bet your bottom dollar they are all aware of him as well...

I will rewrite what I have written previously about Natural Golf.

A 70 yo man who plays at my club plays Natural Golf. I have played at least 10 rounds of golf with him. At first, his set up and swing looked odd to me but I never really said anything about it. I also noticed that he hit the ball extremely straight.

Finally after a few rounds I asked him about his swing and he told me he plays Natural Golf. He said that after 40 years of playing regular golf, his back hurt so bad he couldn't play anymore. He heard about Natural Golf and started playing that way. (Natural Golf does not cause as much twisting of the lower back as regular golf and involves a much simpler motion)...

Notice how their website says, 'stop twisting, turning and having back pain'

Natural Golf

Harry told me it took a year to adapt to Natural Golf. He bought new clubs that are adapted to that type of set up. After a year, he said his game was back to where it was previously (from a scoring standpoint) and he was actually a stroke or two lower.

It is a legitimate way to play the game but is not something you can simply learn in a weekend or a month. If you want to go to this style, you must commit to it completely and I'd suggest you find a Natural Golf certified instructor in your area to get you going....and of course you'll have to buy new clubs too.

So you either go there or you don't.

You can't be....sort of pregnant.

lol "sort of pregnant". Sorta like Yoda's "Do or do not, there is no try". hehe

Sorry, I am new to ST, so I didn't realize that it was talked about before.

Its too bad Moe never stayed with the PGA. Would have been interesting to see the numbers that he'd have put up over the span of a career.

NO need to apologize...just wanted to let you know we've touched both topics of Moe's amazing career and Natural Golf quite a bit.

Welcome aboard...this is what we are all about...

Frankly, I've learned more about world geography and international customs on here than golf by a HUGE margin...

As the Spanish say, "El Gusto es mio"...

But if you start another 'What's your favourite ball?' thread, on the other hand...
