Club Championship v. Camping

So I have a dilemma.

CC tomorrow. 36 holes with a limited field. Probably only 6-7 guys with a better index than me, so I'm thinking I have a glimmer of a chance if I play well. I figure there are only 2-3 guys capable of winning this.

SWMBO also suggests (last night) that we go camping as it is the last w/e before our kids go back to school. A nice way to round off the holidays. Her friend is already going with her husband and kids and they are keen that we go too.

AGGGHHHHH, I'm really torn. I have not told SWMBO that the CC involves 36 holes (ie all day Saturday!). I usually leave that to the last minute as an oversight "Oh, didn't I tell you that honey?"

But I really like the thought of camping too. It's a good laugh and our kids would love it. They go back to school on Tuesday.

I'm leaning towards the camping, as I would be playing guilt ridden golf and probably shoot millions!

Go camping. Good times with your family are almost always the right choice.

This is a total no brainer IMO. Family comes first. Next week when they are in school you'll be wishing you had more time with them.

I have a different situation this weekend that involves our club championship too.

Unlike our Member-Member tourney which is a blast...our CC is very different (makes sense). Very businesslike and of course competitive.

Nobody in my group likes to play in it. The entry fee is pretty high ($128) and we usually take this opportunity to go elsewhere for our round together...

So tomorrow - it's off to the RTJ Trail and the newly redone Oxmoor Valley (Valley) course....

Go camping. Not likely to shoot a good round anyway if you're feeling bad about blowing off your family.

Could you not manage to do both??? You could take them in the morning, go play golf and then return for Saturday evening then all day Sunday, Monday. This way they will have the camp setup on your return with out you having to lift a finger.

I had it easy, my wife plays, we knew about the Club Championship 6 months ago and canceled all other plans. Kinda contrary to what the other say, so for us I guess the Club Championship falls in line with family first. I guess since we also camp, and have even played golf while camping, I would have to ask how far away are you camping? Golf in the morning and camping in the afternoon and evening makes for a very enjoyable day.

Unfortunately I did not make the championship flight, 6 strokes out after the first 2 rounds, and got eliminated 5 and 4 on the A flight the second week.

Although my wife did win the women's club championship, so I doubt she would be the one to ask either.

Thumbs up "Seize the Moment"!!!

Absolutely go camping!
I gotta' believe it would mean the world to your wife and kids.
And in my opinion, it would be rather rude if you left to go play golf and leave your family and friends back at the campground.

There is nothing more precious than time spent with ones' family.
Take it from someone who learned this the hard way!!!

I would say camping.

I would rather spend time with my kids than some dudes on a golf course. Unless you have a chance to play Augusta, then I would say go golfing.

So anyway...

...I decided to man up and do the camping / family thing. Friday after work, things got a bit confused with the other family going. We decided to leave it to Saturday morning. I got up early, cut the grass, tidied up etc. and then by lunch we STILL hadn't left!!

Frantic text and phone calls back and forth, and it was decided, rather than camping we would go for a picnic instead, due to poor weather. So we drove 25 miles in the rain to a forest, had a picnic in the rain, got soaked and then went 10 pin bowling!!! LOL. Actually it turned out to be great fun. And we went for dinner afterwards, drank a load of wine and the world was good.

The weather for the CC turned out to be brutal. So in some ways I was glad to give it a miss. But the story has a nice happy golf ending.

My wife felt bad that I didn't get to play in the CC. So she agreed to play with me the next day in our club's Mixed Foresomes championship. And guess what? We won!!! She played great and hit a fantastic "money shot" at the last for us to clinch it. A total of 38 points. Actually if either of us had putted well, we could have had a bunch more points. I was surprised that we won but she was really happy, her first win!!
