Question rookie question...

so i dont think id call myself the most technical player and i have heard this term over and over which is Knock down shot... From the jst of the conversations and referances ive seen/heard this term being compared to it sounds like a lower shorter shot that spins alot more ie a 7 iron going 100 or so but stopping on a dime and not going more than 30 feet in the air? Id appreciate you guys' input n thanks in advance for the help

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. You usually want to knock it down when the wind is going to impede the natural shape of your shot. The less it's in the wind, the less it's going to move.

I call mine the "low checker".......and occasionally I call it "the ball that hits the green, but doesn't check at all, leaving me an impossible downhill chip that I wished I could have avoided like the plague."

It's a great shot when it works, sucks when it don't.

Shea....good question.

The Knockdown can be used with any/all clubs. The predominant result of the Knockdown is a lower ball flight, shorter distance and (hopefully) a striaghter flight too.

I use it most often with my driver, when I need to get a straight tee shot and length from the tee is not a premium.

If you saw my pictures of the RTJ Trail from last week, you saw a course filled with fairway bunkers, often on both sides which really narrows the tee shot.

I hit quite a few knockdowns and stayed out of the sand which enabled me to have a good round...

1) Choke down an inch on the club you are using.

2) Take the club back to the nine 0'clock position (horizontal).

3) Swing through the ball and finish at 3 o'clock (horizontal again).

This was explained in Golf Digest a couple of years ago by Phil Mickelson as "shaking hands with the ball'.

You are finishing as if you are extending your arm to shake hands.

Try it - it's fairly easy to master and you can use it a lot.
