Respectable professional debut for Rory McIlroy

Shot a -3 on his debut, no dropped shots, not bad at all. Turned pro. off a +6 h/c at only 18 years of age. Who was the last to make it through this route? Garcia?

Only time will tell with this guy, but obviously I would like to see him do well.

Yep nice opener alright IG, I believe the only aspect of his game holding back him from going stellar is the red mist ... by all accounts he's been speaking with Podger about maintaining an inner calm ..

Aye, I remember a few Crimson Dawns alright when I was 18 (a bloody long time ago!!). Only the lack of advice stopped me going stellar too!

As with many of our swear words Sandpiper, it's not limited to 1 meaning

Bollocks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ... just about covers it in my book

Cheers

Lol @ "what does 'bollox' mean." I almost spat out a mouthful of milk there. Quality

I was intending to post the exact same thread. Yep, got to +6 a short time ago. Right enough, he plays at a driver/wedge course - one of the easiest in NI, but his handicap also is accounted and determined by what he does away from home - where he has mostly played, so that obviously means a lot.

Playing off Scratch at 13, winning 12 consecutive West of Ireland matches since the age of 14 & shooting 61 at Royal Portrush (a feat that when Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke heard they didn't believe it could be true) have to rank his most impressive feats for me, personally.

Hope the lad does well has he has everything to take him to the very top, he really does. I have watched him a couple of times and he is sensational. His father and uncle have reportedly got a six-figure sum on him to win the British Open in the next ten years. No pressure now, Rory....

He may become a Tommy Bolt! Winning tourneys while helocoperting wedges all across the course.

If it weren't for he board, I'd have no clue about up and comer's like him...

So bollox as an adjective is useless, low quality; but as a noun it means perfection/ top quality?

Here are some rough translations...

I got a boot in the bollox - Somebody kicked me in my testicles
He was a wee bollox - He was a little shit
I was bollox'ed last night - I consumed too much alcohol
That's a load of bollox - I don't agree with you
I was upto me bollox in it - I was in a lot of trouble
Ah bollox - Oh no!
It was a bollox night - I failed to meet any young ladies on my evening out

Hope that helps...

i may also add...

got a new putter - its the dog's bollox - this would mean 'I have just received shipment of a new putting device, it really is of exceptional quality and has improvement my game greatly'

I have a pain in me bollox - this does not refer to a physical ailment in ones testes, more to a sense of general annoyment and bad humour and disatisfaction with everything in the world at any given point in time
