It seems you really try to force the club past parallel at the top. Maybe your arms are just not catching up with your body in the downswing leaving the club head open. Forcing at the top could also put you in a reverse pivot. Do you ever sometimes do a hard yank to the left? Since you are a nine handicap and probably hit the ball well I would try to just slow things down a bit and don't force at the top. Keep in mind though, I am only an 18 handicap so what do I know? Wait to see if anyone else agrees with me. I wish things weren't so dark in your video and we could see what your club face is doing at the top. A straight on shot would help too.

Bend your knees, back to target, fire.

spine angle, spine angle, spine angle. As you the lift the club up you are literally standing up. You are almost completely upright at the top of your swing. You also start the club back too far inside. So get a nice comfortable posture, knees bent slightly, bend forward at the hips, back nice and straight. Then take the club back a little slower, more parallel to your target line and keep that spine angle the same throughout the swing.
This should help immensely.

Just a little side note, you may want to compare this swing with one where you actually are hitting a ball.

I suggest this only because my demo/practice swings are significantly different from when I actually have a ball in front me and plan on hitting it. For some stupid reason there is a switch in my head that is triggered by a little white ball and when that switch is flipped I have a tendency to forget how to swing...

It appears as though your grip is all wrong. Hard to see, but it looks like your thumbs are on the side of the shaft (instead of mostly on top), and the club is resting in your palms (instead of your fingers).

You can overcome a lot of swing flaws, but a really bad grip is one of the hardest to overcome.

Talking Question from a 40 handicapper

Watch the third swing.
Notice his head.
It looks like he looks back and away from the ball.

I am the very last person in the world to comment on someone elses swing, but I watched it to see if I do anything like him as I'm having the same problems.

Yeh, my grip tends to defy my thinking sometimes. My thumbs are on the top but I keep letting the club go back to my palms instead of my fingers. I go through 2 golf gloves a week because I shred the palms of them to nothing but a hole.

Get a turn. Your lower body is swaying forward, not rotating. Imagine yourself as a slinky, and you are rotating around the center pole (your spine). Also, you are lifting up in your swing, see your head moving up?

Let your left shoulder rotate down and away from it's original position, keep that head still and centered. The shoulder rotation should also help with the lower body rotation.

Don't get too discouraged. You should have seen what they said about my first swing video. I almost quit the game.

Seriously though, lessons are worth the money. It's so tough to correct things on your own. Having a pro show me and physically grab my club, put my hands on the grip, turn my shoulders, hold a club over my head to stop my vicious overswing... these are things I couldn't do on my own. So basically I've spent somewhere around $2000 on drivers and $160 so far in lessons. Last round I hit 6 of the 9 fairways I used driver on with drives carrying over 250 on all 6 and a long of 272 dead center. Every round gets better and I've tripled my birdie average, which was about 1 every 2.5 rounds and I've made 5 in the last 4 rounds. Lessons are worth a lot more than equipment to me now. Ho some lessons. (I think I found a new caption).

Wink The grip looks a little "strong" to me. Such

a grip can get the swing coming inside too soon. Definitely need some little adjustments in your posture, especially a little flex in the knees (but do not over-do this! You still want to be standing tall at address. Hips out some, but again, not too much.).

You are sending that ball parallel left. You are sort falling backwards a bit which is not quite right if we are sending the ball at that target out there, parallel left. Body motions make sense with a good swing. You coil up for power and then release it so it propells the ball parallel left.

There is something of a rocking motion going on with your shoulders. The shoulders should be moving a little more level. The rocking makes your head move up at one point. The head should be pretty steady as far as lateral or side-to-side movement is concerned, but AT NO TIME SHOULD THE HEAD EVER BE MOVING UP AND DOWN.

We have been cutting up your swing quite a bit. But yours is far better than some that have appeared on this forum. Keep at it. The effort will pay off.

Go get Ben Hogan's book "Five Lessons - The Modern Fundamentals of Golf".

It is worth it's weight in gold. Read it. Read it again. Practice what he preaches.

Ok, I went to my golf coach yesterday for another lesson and it helped me alot. It was like a switch flipped in my head. It is still not totally fixed but that will come with practice. Turns out my driver was partially to blame. Because the shaft was factory installed, it was put in wrong and even he faded my driver instead of hitting it straight. I hit his and hit it dead straight. Anyway I will put a new video on a little later, see if you guys notice any differences.

Sincerely,
Huth

Update: Heres the new video
