Golf Trip

In two weeks on Monday I am heading off to bonnie Scotland to play 3 rounds at Gleneagles AND play Kingsbarns.

Have a friend who is a member at Gleneagles, so getting on all three courses there for cheapo and the same friend secured a contract recently with a member of Kingsbarns and got us a free 4-ball there, too !! That I am looking forward to immensely.

For anyone who follows football/soccer, we are also headed to Glasgow Rangers vs. Barcalona in the Champions League on the Tuesday which will be unreal.

This along with a lot of good food and even more drink makes pretty much an ideal weekend for lil' old me.

Will get some photos to stick up for when I'm back, one and all...

Wow, I envy you. I just got back home and am ready to go again. Ed and I wanted to play Kingsbarns; but we just ran out of time before we could get there.

If you have any free time, drive down to the Upper Largo Hotel for a drink/meal and say hello to all the folks for us. Upper Largo is less than 20 miles south of Kingsbarns, along the Tourist Coastal Highway. Lots of good people there...they will treat you right.

If you haven't already seen my three posts in the pictures section of the forum, you might want to check them out.

Magazine Ratings:

17th in “100 Best Golf Courses Outside the United States”
– Golf Digest 2007-2008

5th in “World Top 100 Course You Must Play”
– Golf World 2005

Top 100 Courses in the World
– Golf Magazine 2001, 2003, 2005

Best New International Course
– Golf Digest 2000

Quotes:
• "Kingsbarns Golf Links is without doubt the best new golf course I have ever played with views of the sea from every hole complimented by a decision-making and strategic layout. It's traditional golf at its best and I don't think you could ever tire of playing such a magnificent Links. Kingsbarns in my opinion, is one of the great golfing experiences in the world".
- Sandy Jones, Executive Director of the PGA

Can't wait ! We played the Sam Torrence Course at St. Andrews Bay last year and it was pure quality. I have a friend who plays on the EuroPro & Challenge Tours and he played both in events and said that Kingsbarns is ten times that of the Torrence !

Gleneagles should be an experience as well. Still among one of the finest golf complexes in the British Isles.

Best get prac-tising, folks....!

Well, looks like i'm going to have to be the first one to comment on jealousy regarding Rangers V Barca. Scotland and Spain's finest going head to head (even if I am a Celtic man myself).

You lucky SOB.

I can't quite believe I am reading this: A Celtic man stating that the Gers are the best in Scotland ?! **Rubs eyes vigoursly**

I have £50 on Rangers, Barca and Man U. to win each of their respective league titles this year. I reckon good chance the Gunners are gonna rob me of my £412, dude. Gonna be real tight, but you're looking real good at the minute. And that is without Henry ! You have some truely amazing players. Wenger is nothing short of sensational in the transfer market !!!

I see the caddie rates are £37 plus if you thought the experience to be "excellent", you should tip £20 or more. That means you're giving them £60 or more, which is about $125 U.S. That is serious coinage for anyone coming over from the U.S., like.
At our club it is £25 plus tip and the guys generally get £35. Couldn't believe the prices of the ones in Kingsbarns there. I wonder if any of us guys'll take one. We might be struggling enough from the effects of the night before to enable us to have to take one, perhaps...

Just been on Gleneagles website. The pics on there look absolutely sublime ! Really looking forward to playing a top parkland/heathland layout.

The PGA Centenary Course there, designed by Jack Nicklous, is venue for the 2114 Ryder Cup. Wasn't aware of that..

Obviously not a real Celt, they'd never say that, I work with enough to know.

You lucky SOB thats a great trip you've managed to hook up for yourself. I'm going to play forest Pines on the 22nd and I'm pretty happy about that

Yes. I rated it third-best of the courses we played. I'm glad I got the chance to play there, and for the one time it was worth the big $$$ we shelled out. I wouldn't go back though. Too much money.

But a great golf course nonetheless.
